ROSWELL, N.M. -- Roswell's animal control supervisor says most of the sick cats found in the back of a moving van last week have been destroyed.
Joseph Pacheco says 44 of the 61 cats were euthanized after being examined by a veterinarian.

The cats were found January 19th in a moving van driven by 71-year-old Mary Jane Lyle of Minden, Michigan.

She has pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty.

No trial date has been set.

A Roswell police officer pulled over her moving van because a taillight was out.

While talking to Lyle, the officer heard noises that appeared to be an injured cat.

The woman told him she had a cat.

But when the officer opened the truck, he discovered 63.

Two were dead.

This horrible horrible for animals that cannot stop this from happen
