the Northernlights

Hi all this thread is especially dedicated to the most beautiful spectacle at the sky at nite, the Northernlights.

Polar light, also the northernlights or Aurora Borealis called, to see people especially from the pole regions. This does not means however that in the Netherlands never it to see

is! On average on ten days in a year the northernlights from the Netherlands it

is observed.

The Northernlights have do with the activity of the sun. How more actively she is, how larger the chance on the northernlights in our regions. These are generally the consequence of a breaking loose on the sun. Sun-Activity have a period of approximately eleven years, but during this cycle the activity can vary considerably. Once in the eleven years the sun is on average terrible actively and

prevents the Northernlights also in the Netherlands more often. In the years 2000 and 2001 the sun was very dynamic. There then much Sun Storms took place. At present the number decreases up to minimum around 2006/2007.

I have been able to see the Northernlights once in my live, 2 years back on Oct 30 2003. There was a chance of seeing it yesterday but it didn't came out, the night before there were some Northernlights, but i did not see them.

Have you ever seen this beautiful spectacle at nite, let me know, and if you don't have seen it in your live i'll post some pics and you can say what you think of it

My heart has wings, Mmmmmm
And I can fly

I was hoping to see the northern lights when I went to Alaska a few years ago but unfortunately I went during the time of the year when there's 20 hours of sunlight and night time is more like perpetual sunset

I heard from the news last week that there was northern lights appeared in the U.K. but it was raining or cloudy at most part of U.K during that time so only very few people saw it.
Northern lights is more common in Scotland and northern England but no very common where I lived (Central England) and the problem is the weather so it's very difficult to see it but they do exist in the U.K.

I saw them once in central New York state. They aren't so common there, but they happened one night. They were a green, shimmering sheet of light near the horizon.

you say it's sometimes in the Netherlands. I suppose Belgium is too fucking bright at night to have a chance at that?
I'm definitely planning a trip to Iceland or Sweden during a period I can see it.

Well it's seen in Belgium before, i can remember i've read some stories on Dutch sites (chat sites, info) from Belgians who also saw it....., so it can be seen in Belgium , but if you wanna have it, you have to have a good sunstorm to see it
