Supermodel hurt in Tsunami
Supermodel survivor does her part
By CĂ©sar G. Soriano, USA TODAY Supermodel Petra Nemcova, who was injured in the tsunami that struck Asia Dec. 26, allowed an Us Weekly photographer into her Thailand hospital room Sunday. In return, the magazine will donate all proceeds from the sale of the photos to other outlets to Save the Children, on Nemcova's behalf.
Us Weekly also has given the photo to select media outlets at no charge, including USA TODAY, to publicize the cause.)
Nemcova, 25, suffered a broken pelvis, cuts and bruises when a tidal wave hit the beachfront bungalow she was sharing with her fashion photographer boyfriend, Simon Atlee, 33. She survived by clinging to a palm tree for eight hours; he was swept away and remains missing.
"People were screaming and kids were screaming all over the place, screaming, 'Help, help,' " the Czech-born beauty told New York's Daily News last week. "And after a few minutes, you didn't hear the kids."
The photos will appear in the Friday issue of Us Weekly. Nemcova is expected to return home to the Czech Republic later this week.
