Just watched the pilot for "The L Word"

Early Christmas present. DVD boxed set. Watching the pilot again with the 'commentary'. I'm feeling more creative already.

Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

Truthfully, I almost freaked when the first person who appears on the screen is a guy. But in a (very) wierd way, it gives the show a real world anchor. It's like it forces you to remember that there's a whole section of the population looking at the show a completely different way.

I've only viewed the first half hour of the pilot with the commentary from Jennifer Beals and Ilene Chaiken, and it was really .... it's really cool from a creative perspective.

I rented disc 1 and disc 2 a few weeks ago and I liked it a lot. The show is much better than I expected and who would've thought Jennifer Beals had all that range? The abundance of sex threw me off at first and I thought it was too much but I checked myself because you see straight sex scenes on Sex and the City, Six Feet Under and other cable shows all the time. I liked the plot with Jennifer and white girlfriend debating on the race of the sperm donor for their baby. And I love Pam Grier but she looks awful (lose some weight girl LOL). Nice to see Ossie Davis as their dad.

What did you think of the tennis player? I know they aren't going for realism because even players who are active on the Challenger circuit travel so they wouldn't have time to sit at the cafe all day.

Then buy that DVD, 'cause the word on the street is she's not coming back next season

"Lesbos" huh? You're charming. I can only imagine what you think of the blacks on Soul Food, the Mexicans on Resuurection Blvd and the Italians on The Sopranos.

And the one shot of her overhead was really not good form. I did love her agent telling her to pump some iron before the Subaru people saw her so she wouldn't look as skinny. If the show lasts three seasons I see an eating-disorder story arc coming up.

I'm only up to where she and the sou-chef go to dinner, but that was a really sweet courtship.

What's up with Marina? I still have 2 or 3 discs to watch but I didn't see her and Jenny lasting anyway. I was trying to figure out where I had seen Marina before and then a co-worker reminded me that Marina was in Legends of the Fall. She's really pretty and looks like she's mixed with a few different flavors.

Also was it just me or is it a little "unfair" that they make the punk rock girl the one that sleeps around? I just got the sense that they are explaining her promiscuity as being related to being punk and crazy.

One last thing. I apologize for what I said about Pam Grier. That was shallow.

Volcana you are much too kind. She wasn't believable at all in the tennis court scenes but this is TV so I just play right along. I was happy to see Subaru endorse as the "gay Anna Kournikova". The chef is so sweet.

ahh! I have to wait till next bleedin April till it comes out on dvd! Dana is the tennis player, and i liked her (not her tennis) on the show. I only saw a few eps though, coz it was on so late (and I started work at 5:30am the next morning, add to that a broken vcr... pfft).

I'm cheap so i downloaded the season.

Alice and Dana are so hilarious. I like the scenes with them and Shane, they have a lot of chemistry together.

I can't either. All she does is stand around and look hot while eating Jenny.

Finished watching first season. Completely bummed that Dana didn't go back to Lara. And I'm sorry, but Jenny Schecter is some kind of time-bomb. Com-plete absence of impulse control. I'm looking forward to next season.

The box set is well worth the buy, at $50.

I think this was taken off the air halfway thru the first season so I dont know what happened
Not that I thought it was a very good show anyway, just watched it to fill in time. My favourite was Shane, my most hated was Jenny.
