E-mail spam

This is going beyond what is tolerable.

Since long ago I have the policy not to sign up for any mailing list, and I use the spam filter in all my e-mail accounts.

NEVER, EVER in my life I have received an interesting offer, never I have bought anything offered to me through e-mail, and, even if I am interested in the product, I wouldn't buy it from a company that is sending spam.

I started to block entire domains as I wasn't interested on anything from them, then they started to use subdomains, so, I blocked the domain (the last part), so I wouldn't receive anything from any subdomain belonging to that domain.

They realised that and then they are using yahoo, guess what? they send all the spam to hotmail and as nobody that has something useful to tell me uses my hotmail account I just blocked yahoo too.

But I also notified yahoo that their service is being used for spam purposes, I included the headers and the url of the company being promoted.

I really wonder what is their iq level, they are forcing spam e-mail, do they really think that by irritating people they are going to sell?

By the way, I have blocked doubleclick in my computer as well, they really irritate me with their pop-ups and don't want them to know anything about me, they too use stupid cheatings to avoid block, so, I blocked them all together.

And they wonder why internet advertising doesn't work...

I know! I get about 50 spam mails a DAY!

Not to mention sometimes their programs obviously fuck up and they send me like 1000 copies of the same mail essentially crippling my hotmail account

Sorry, I would have answered you 2 minutes ago but I had to stop and block an "18/f wants to chat" spam ICQ message that came in as I was reading this. Spam is idiocy. People who buy anything from spammers are idiots. Definitely the worst part of the internet experience. I would rather that the government covertly tracked my activity, at least they wouldn't be harassing me to my face.

same here - most of them are sent right to my junk folder right away anyway so that's a bit of a plus, but i still get a few going through to my inbox which is irritating because all those e-mails can add up quickly in your size limit and i've had a couple times in the past where legitimate e-mails of mine were deleted because all the spam e-mails put my size limit over and i wasn't around to delete them.

I HATE IT!
I had to abonden a e-mail account because it reached 100% and so I left it to die.
Now I have another one, and somehow, they are catching up to it, hope those basterds go to hell, .
My Icq is bombarded with 18/f wanting to chat, and send me free porn, my ignore list is really growing.
Don't know how they get my info, but it's pissing me off, that I am considering leaving the internet world for a year and change all my info, maybe buy another computer, or even better, move to another country, wait that wouldn't do it too, I should just probably leave this planet, hmm, no, the spirits will still haunt me.

I don't have a free e-mail account so I'm not getting any spam at all. The Uni firewall stops most spam.

Someone I know recently got child porn advertising in her mailbox!!! (hotmail account, I believe) She reported it, but still felt awful, repulsed, shocked...

Do SPAM have a mailing list? Y'know the Luncheon meat? It'd be quite ironic, but there are so many things you can do with SPAM, you'd probably get bombarded with literally SPAM emails.

But yeah, evil stuff, and as for the bloke who invented the flash pop up which moves around your screen so you can't actually see the words with NO closing option so you have to wait until teh advert is finished, he wants to be doused in sweet cider and put in the vicinity of a wasps nest.

http://www.spamcop.net

Sign up and use it. It takes time, but it works.

I used to get a ton of spam (and would make the mistake of following their "click here to remove your address" links, which apparently only confirms that they found a live body). Someone told me about spamcop (I may have read about it on the Sanex board) and I started just reporting everything. After about a week most of it stopped - now if I get one a month it's a lot.

There are other services, but with spamcop, you sign up for the service, and they email you a link and an email address to use whenever you want to report spam.

To report spam, you need to either copy the entire email - icluding the full headers (I can’t tell you how to find those unless I know what kind of email program you use) - and paste it into the form you link takes you to, or forward the email (with headers) to address they provide. Spamcop sorts through the headers, finds out who’s hosting the spammer, and asks you if you want to report them. You say yes. They get busted.

Thanks griffin, it's a pleasure to cause those idiots a problem.

I am not sure how they get the e-mail address, I think what they mostly do is to have programs that generate multiple user names on a certain domain like hotmail, some are not too smart and they show the addresses they have sent the spam and they are normally variances of the same name.

They do use the "remove" to verify an e-mail exists, now, if you send an e-mail asking to be removed it means you are not interested, what's the purpose of sending more e-mails to that person? it's beyond me , what annoys me the most is their own stupidity, they think they are clever because they pass filters but what do they really get? absolutely nothing, just for the sake of it.

As I said before, they wonder why so many dot coms fell apart, and here you have the reason, companies managed by computer gurus that have no idea of real marketing or real world for that matter and then, they come with a wonderful software too, technically great but useless 99% of the time.

Take blink for example, they are trying to get me sign up for their "premium" service, that is to store my favourite on their site, how stupid can they be?, why would I pay for that when I can use IE or Netscape for that? those programmers really should have a reality check
