Mariah's Career in Trouble Again?

Mariah's a friend to the show but this doesn't look good that her album is delayed again.

Mariah's Career in Trouble Again?

Mariah's Career in Trouble Again?

Poor Mariah Carey. She makes a little progress, she takes a few steps backwards.

Carey has been busy recording her second album for Island Def Jam, the follow-up to her 2002 CD, "Charmbracelet." But since she started working on it, Carey jettisoned the two people who were closest to her and who were responsible for making "Charmbracelet" a hit: manager/partner Jerry Blair and publicist Cindi Berger. She replaced them with Jennifer Lopez's former manager, Benny Medina, who maybe did not know as much about Mariah as his predecessors.

Now Medina is on his own, and Mariah is being ... Mariah.

According to my sources, the diva recorded most of a new album and planned to release it this fall. But the CD she came up with was apparently not to the liking of Island Def Jam's L.A. Reid, who now is responsible for making sure Carey doesn't fall on her face. Apparently Reid was so displeased with the album, that the new release date has been moved to next winter or spring.

A lot is riding on this new Carey album, not just for Mariah, but for Reid too. This is his big chance to prove that he was not personally responsible for the end of Arista Records, where he piled up a lot of bills and didn't have a lot to show for his work when he left. His one accomplishment was turning Outkast into a household name, but his legacy — two failed Whitney Houston albums for example, on a $20 million advance — is not stellar. (I'm still wondering what happened to the Arista acts we were told would change our lives, Lennon and Adema.)

Carey, who's dating a 28-year-old assistant from her now defunct MonarC Records label, is said to be shuttling between the Isle of Capri, New York and Los Angeles as she records and re-records. I'm told that junior A&R people at Island Def Jam were recently asked if they had any new young, hip "with it" material for the statuesque senior — that is, 35-year-old — chanteuse.

"Charmbracelet" was a hit? That's news to me... Although I personally liked "Bringin' on the Heartbreak." Great remake...

Wouldn't it be really funny if Tommy Mottola started posting here and sharing his views on Mariah?

she purposely push the date back so that she does not have to go head-2-head with so many people...

Good tactic Mariah

I love Mariah, but her career has been shit since her 2nd CD. It's all downhill from there. If she'd go back to the R&B Adult Contemporary stuff like her first CD she'd go down a legend, instead she's going to go down as a has been.

I'm BACK & SINGLE. So lock up all the hotties!

charmbacelet got to number 3 in US album charts, and through the rain was a top 10 hit over here. It wasnt really a hit compared to her blockbuster standards, but it did better than the previous album

She should go back to the daydream / butterfly / music box days IMO.

Women's tennis sucks.

Well I hope Mariah and LA know what they are doing cos, they are two people who really should know what they are doing. I mean say what you want about Arista, but LA was producing hit albums right left and centre just not so long ago (TLC, Toni Braxton, P!ink).

I mean in all honesty shes had ONE year to record this album, so I mean I would have been suprised if it was good. I mean only Missy Elliot has managed to rush an album out within a year and make it remotely respecatble so...

The tricky thing is, you can't just say "go back to those days" because then people will say "it's the same old same old" from Mariah. It's hard to keep reinventing yourself over and over. I have faith though...Mariah's voice is too amazing for her not to have more hits

I agree. Whenever Mariah tries to do more hip-hop-ish (grammatical butchery, yes, but bear with me) material, she falls on her face. She's not Beyoncé, and it would be foolish for her to try to be Beyoncé. It didn't work for 38-year-old Janet Jackson, and it won't work for 35-year-old Mariah.

This Is Not A Test was the biggest disappoint ever in my opinion. Compare it with Supa Dupa Fly and you can tell how bad Missy has become (she lost her talent along with her weight I feel).

Anyways, Mariah is a legend and I can't wait for her new album to come out. The UK do not show Mariah enough respect (CharmBracelet only reached #52 or #54 in the album charts). In my opinion, I don't believe that Mariah can go back to her Music Box days. Sure she still has a voice, but the music industry has changed, and that type of music, although brilliant, doesn't really have a market for it anymore. People like J-Lo and Britney Spears sell more records than Mariah Carey, even though Mariah Carey has such a superior voice, and Britney and J-Lo have f*ck all (although I do like Britney). It just goes to show that the music industry is in a different place now, and females with amazing voice (and sexy looks in Mariah's Case) are unable to compete with tone deaf SLUTS in sales!
