HELP!!! i need a dictionary!!!

ok, I know it seems like a stupid question, but picking a dictionary is HARD!!!

i am wanting an american english dictionary. i need a BIG FULL desk dictionary for under $75, i am going to school for my masters, so it must be at LEAST college level.

and a true pocket dictionary. the more words in the least amount of space the better. illustrations are beyond the point for this. $12 price point for this.

this is the one that is calling me,
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&st=books

BUT i find it not the least bit suspect that they wont list the total number of entries, and that a number of users find it simplict. ANOTHER BUT, if it is "homely" but gets the idea across without watering it down (if thats possible) i can live with it.

now i looked at oxford, but its seems a bit stuffy and plus i cant find an edition within my price range in print. oxford i find annoying because of all the filler, like do you really need the history of the word "the"??? really!!!

according to this article, merriam-webster's collegiate dictionary is the best...

american heritage is right behind it thou.

....This is fucked up, fucked up....

This is your blind spot, blind spot.
It should be obvious, but it's not.

You just crush yourself and walk away
I don't care what the future holds
Cause I'm right here in your arms today
With your fingers you can touch me

I'll be your black swan, black swan
I'm for spare parts, broken up.

thank you, this really supported what i was starting to feel.

i need to think aobut the merriam-websters one. i had only like that in undergrad, and ended up throwing it out. i remeber the print was rather large, the definate seemed to be more for elemantry and high school kids than college. again this was years ago. so maybe its improved much.

yes there's no denying it.

merriam-webster's my choice.
