'usb flash drives' query.

ok - all you brilliant techies - i have a question.

If my girlfriend in america buys a usb flash drive, and downloads (whatever) onto it - and sends it to me, here in australia - will my (240v) computer be able to read it??? (and vice versa)

I know its only data - and cds are compatible etc. but i know there is some power exchange in usb ports.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Thanks in advance!!

Its the power difference i was thinking about.

In USA - most appliances run on 110/120V, whereas here - our appliances all run on 240V. and i know that a flashdrive uses power - through the usb port.

I don't want my computer to blow it up - that is all - lol.

Try it on someone else's first

Doesn't make the slightest bit of difference! A tiny weeny percetange of that comes out of the USB only. But in order for her to read it, she'll need Windows 2000, or XP (I'm not sure about ME)

The mains power is being distributed to the USB port by the PCs own PSU, which would send the correct amount regardless of whether it's running off 110v or 240v.

Sorry I'm late.
