I went to a Catholic high school... are they classed as private?

Did you pay exorbitant fees, have to do an entry test, or interview to get in, and only certain people were allowed in, if so then yes. If not, then no.

I did go to a private school and absolutely HATED it!

Private has entry test and you pay high fees also high book costs. Public dont hav entry tests and you do not pay as high fees (I think) also usually you dont have to buy your books they are given to you (not 100% sure on that).
Really they arn't that much different, Private usually get better grades because they have access to more experienced/better teachers who want a higher salary or wateva, and also because their students are familiar with the process of exams etc.
two points: *You still have to pay for your books in public high schools
* You still have exams in public high schools. At least I worked with two guys who were 15ish and they had exams all through high school...so maybe that's changing!

Latham want more money to the public schools but it's not his responsible for that, right? It’s up to state government like Bob Carr and you think he will give the money to all public schools? I doubt it.

Latham can give money to publis schools if he wants. The Federal govt do have some say in schooling too as far as I know, so I guess if latham wants to give more money then he can.

I went to a selective public school.

I hate the idea of "paying for an education". You shouldn't be able to "buy" education. If you're a gifted student, the opportunities should be there for you regardless of what socio-economic background you're from.

And I certainly do not think that private schools should get the funding they do. I mean for one, they're already getting a lot from the parents through fees and donations.

I totally agree with you Sam! I don't think that private schools should get funding from the government...well nowhere near as much as they do already anyway. FIne, if people wanna send their kids to private schools, they pay for it. Don't make the govt pay. Schooling is for everyone, and it would be better to increase facilities at the public schools.

*and this comes from someone who went to a private school*.
