Ali G and Shaggy are set for the highest new entry on this week's chart according to midweek figures. But the pair's single, Julie, taken from the forthcoming movie, Ali G In Da House, still can't knock Will Young off the top spot. Will is outselling Ali and Shaggy, currently at No 2 in the midweek chart, by a margin of 2:1.
Will has now sold just over 1.5m copies since the record breaking single was released on 25 February. Although the rate of sales has slowed down, the rate of decline is similar to last week say chart experts. HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo says: 'I don't think Will's announcement that he is gay has had an adverse effect on sales.'
Next week Will faces stiff competition from his former Pop Idol co-contestant Gareth Gates, whose new single, Unchained Melody is out on Monday.George Michael's new single, Freeek is also released on Monday and is a contender for No 1.
Ali G and Shaggy's hit is taken from the forthcoming Ali G movie, out at cinemas on 22 March.
Elsewhere on this week's chart there are new top 10 entries for Jennifer Lopez with Ain't It Funny, Celine Dion, (A New Day Has Come) and Natalie Imbruglia's Wrong Impression.
