The Avengers

Does anyone enjoy/watch the television series ĎThe Avengersí? Personally Iím a massive fan of the series, hence the username.
The Avengers is a cult-classic television program that originally aired on ITV in England from 1961 to 1969. And is one of the most successful British television shows ever exported to the United States.

I've seen a couple, for a crap tv show, it's not too bad.

That thing Uma Thurman tried to do was HORRIBLE. I couldn't unload that on E-Bay, even after I threw in an autograph!

What do you mean Helen, it's so bad it's good. Or you didn't really like it?
It was very camp.

I'm not good with foreign camp. It's like it's too old.

The Emma years were the best, although I've never seen any episodes with Cathy Gale in them...

Once upon a time...a long...long time ago... I had a username...and this username had a signature which read...'Mrs Peel - we're needed'. Then a few days later there was a poster named Mrs Peel. Think she prefered Cathy Gale though, to Emma Knight/Peel.

Re: The Avengers

I like this show alot. I've only seen the Emma Peel era the networks never show any other episodes. Diana Rigg was hot back then - and it was also funny watching her do the crappily staged fights.

The humour can be a bit lame but I find myself laughing at even the stupid jokes. I think it stands up ok considering it's over 40 years old.

Top 10: Ashleigh Barty, Caroline Garcia, Jamie Hampton, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Sprem, Sam Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe.

All time favourite: Anna Chakvetadze

Re: The Avengers

the emma peel years are absolute classics and yeah, the thurman/fiennes movie was such a catastrophe!
i also find it rather annoying that this new marvel movie is called "the avengers", too. i was actually sure this thread was about that one.

Re: The Avengers

Love the Emma Peel era.

Never liked The New Avengers or the movie though.

Diana Rigg wasn't the original Emma Knight-Mrs Peel.....

There were a couple(2 I think?) unaired episodes with Elizabeth Shepherd in the role....

Linda Thorson was quite good in her role as Tara King

Re: The Avengers

Ok. As I said the only episodes I get to see on tv are the ones with Diana Rigg. Although I have seen the first episode of season 6 which features Diana Rigg and Linda Thorson.

Re: The Avengers

Enjoyed it, had a childhood crush on Diana Rigg (also perhaps the most interesting Bond girl btw)

It was inventive, quirky, fun...

Remakes 9 times out of 10 are a bad idea...certainly the Avengers movie was poor...likewise the Americanized version of Doctor Who lost it's magic.

Agreed. In fact, it's a candidate for worse movie I've ever seen. And to emphasize how bad I think it is - I like Uma Thurman and she looked hawt in the film. Still couldn't save the travesty of a production.
