Oxycontin?

I had a ten-year friend die a few months ago from an accidental overdose of Oxycontin. I had heard this was a new pain killer, but I never thought much about it. I was hoping he died from something else, but it was Oxycontin. He was a normal guy with a wife and children (no, not a client, just a friend, though I would have fucked him if he wanted, he was cute). I'm not looking for sympathy, when you croak, you croak. But I've read all this stuff about it on the Internet, it seems like a dangerous drug. He had back problems and got it legally. About 3 days before he died, he told me he thought he had an addiction to Oxycontin and said he'd been on it for years, and I sort of blew it off, like, just stop taking it and forgot about it. I'm not a drug taker, so I really didn't take it too seriously, and he was sort of a flake anyway.

Does anyone here have any experience or know about this drug?

yeah oxycontin is a narcotic pain killer...so once a person uses it for a long time...he'll get addicted and it'll be hard for him to stop.

Sorry about your friend

Why is it on the market, then? He got it legally, that's what I cannot understand. Maybe the pain is that bad. Is this really an epidemic drug?

Actually, Oxycontin is available through prescription....

Did he get it elsewhere legally?

It's that addictive. That's why you have people breaking into drug stores to steal the stuff.

A lot of painkillers are addictive in general. Aren't a lot of them in the same drug category as heroin?

I browse once in a while.

What happened to him was drug abuse...

Oxycontin should really be used under a doctor's supervision..because of the ingredients in the drug...and should be obtained only thru a doctor's prescription...

However, this drug does treat pain....much like tylenol and advil...but on a much stronger level (mainly for people who suffers from severe chronic pain)....there are people out there that are addicted to tylenol and tylenol-type pain relievers

A lot of painkillers are in the category of narcotic anagelsic (spelling?)...which is very addictive or can cause people to be physically dependent on it once it has been used for a long period of time

usually doctors are very reluctant to prescribe it regardless of age . strange he was given it just for back problems . were the problems that serious? oxycontin is too strong for just back problems . its often given to cancer patients that are on the edge of death . burn victims . people in terrible accidents . etc

... but not just for back problems

I feel sorry for your friends family, that drug is bad. I was addicted to it, and got sent to rehab over it. I will be honest and say this, if I still had some oxy around me, I'd be back on it. Two weeks ago yesterday I done a 40mg pill of it, and I'm still suffering from withdrawl due to it. It's a dangerous drug. Usually it's only given to cancer patients, and people who are dying or near death.
Do you know how your friend used it? See they have a coating on them that is time release and it's meant to be taken orally, however a lot of people that abuse it just scratch the coating off to either pop it, crush and short it, or shoot it. I've always crushed and snorted it, althou I've shot up with it a few times as well. I can tell you that the first times you use it you will get sick and throw up. It's like a form of legal heroin. In fact it contains many of the same chemical properties as heroin. Usually to get off of it they give you methadone. Locally the rise of Oxy has died out, but there is a rise in methadone due to it. I know someone that died a few weeks ago from over dosing on methadose patches. I've done this stuff before, but I've never ODed. I'm still battling with trying to quit. My girlfriend is in rehab right now due to the oxys we done 2 weeks ago. She battles with it more than I do. If there is anything you need to know, don't hesitate to ask me.

The pills usually come in 40 and 80 mg althou I've heard there are 120's out there. Locally the last time I bought a 40, which was 2 weeks ago, I paid $65 for one pill! It's expensive and it destroys a lot of lives. Unfortunately those of us that don't need it are getting our hands on it, and the drug company to begin with just marketed it as a new pain killer, not as the pain killer for cancer patients which it actually is.

Actually Oxy is a drug you can get addicted to after just using it ONCE. That's how it happened with me, I got addicted to it after just once, and I still battle with it. Of course I got into using about 3 80mg tablets a day at my height of abuse too. It wasted my money and my life, and now I've gotten my soulmate away from me in rehab and she's never allowed to talk to me or anything again because they think we get each other into drugs.

Is it the same thing as a painkiller named Oxycodon that I used few times? I remember it didn't really work for me at all.

Yeah, the problem with the drug is this. The more you use it, the more you need to keep getting that nice high nodding off feeling. The scary part is, that after so long you can OD on it just to try to reach your normal high level. Every time you use this drug, it builds up a level in your system where the next time you have to do a little more and a little more.

Oddly enough 2 weeks ago the 40 gave me a buzz much like what the 3 80s a day used to. It also made me puke my guts out for the 2 days afterwards because my system was going thru withdrawls again. From what I understand anytime you have an addiction to this sort of stuff, no matter how long you are clean, you are never over it. That chemical make up stays in your system for the rest of your life. I hadn't done any oxy's for 2 years, then 2 weeks ago I done that 40. And to this very day I'm still feeling the effects.

As for my friend, I'm not sure she's over her addiction at all. The last time I talked to her via phone on Saturday she asked me would I come visit her and sneak her an OC (short for oxy) in.
