On boycotting Jamaican produce

Hi everybody I'm back from my holiday in Jamaica. It was great! People very friendly, great weather and I met some of my relatives from my father's side of the family. My bf even liked it although he was reluctant to go there on political grounds. In fact, I'm not so sure about boycotting Jamaican produce any longer...

Years ago when I was young and idealistic, my gay friends and I vowed to boycott African, Middle Eastern and Caribbean produce on the grounds that to buy products from such countries in some way condoned their homophobic legislative and cultural practices. I think perhaps this is naive approach to discriminatory issues now as to boycott produce probably hurts the poor. I still loathe Shabba Ranks et al. though. What do you think?
BTW I hope people missed me, lol.

I filmed a movie there once, it was Heaven. They have the best dope, too. I know Broadway doesn't go for booze and dope, but I was in Jamaica, not on Broadway at the time, so I made an exception. That was some great shit, I didn't even have to take yellow ones when I was down there. That stupid Neely had to ruin it by rolling a doobie the size of a cigar and then getting caught in customs with it, so we had to throw out stash out. Bitch!

I never bother with boycotts, it has primitive laws but at least they are honest and open with their discrimination.

Yes, I see your point. But it is difficult to find pride in a part of one's heritage that would discriminate against me so openly. I dunno, maybe I should get over it and be glad that I don't live there.

Is it one of those places where the laws are really bad, but individual people have no problem with it. In other words, the opposite of the U.S.?

No, I don't think so. Not only are the laws really homophobic (i.e. 10 year imprisonment for homosexual acts), but the popular culture there, such as ragga music (sp?), promote violence against gay people. To be gay in Jamaica is the ultimate taboo Religious intolerance in Jamaica is significant also.

I know! Coupled with the great weather, what's the problem over there?

You can get laid in Negril, especially the nude beaches. Elsewhere, the men are selling themselves to the women. They will let you watch, but they don't want to get down. Aint that something.

I know you didn't get laid there. Those jamaicans dive over others to get to white women. Wait a minute, you weren't trying to get laid by jamaicans anyways, they are not your color. You went to the wrong country. You should have went to the Dominican Republic.

Go there next time, you'll love those fair skinned boys.
