Thumbs up Cate Blanchett and Queen Elizabeth I fans:

GREAT NEWS!

Cate to reign on
June 02, 2004

IT was the film that made Hollywood pay attention to Cate Blanchett and now, six years later, director Shekhar Kapur is working on a sequel to his hit Elizabeth.

Blanchett is expected to take the throne again and star in the epic - based on Queen Elizabeth I - which has the working title of Golden Age.

"It is about the battle between her life as a monarch and her personal life," Kapur said from Singapore. "It ends in the destruction of the Spanish Armada on the larger level."

The Indian-born Kapur said the script, which Michael Hirst is working on, would be ready in six months.

"And then it depends on Cate's schedule and my schedule as to when we start shooting." Kapur has a habit of casting Australian actors as leads in his films. Following Elizabeth, which also starred Geoffrey Rush, he directed Four Feathers, with Heath Ledger in the lead.

I can't believe it, this is like one of my favourite movies ever! Yes!

Yup, love Cate... love Elizabeth I (not quite in the same way), and it should be a good film if it happens.

Did the Oscar that year go to Gwyneth Paltrow for Shakespeare in Love (I may be hideously wrong here)? If so, she definitely WAS robbed, because that film was an ensemble piece if ever I saw one and her performance was nothing.

If it was some other poor actress she robbed and not Cate then I apologise for my misinformation.

Helen Hunt deserve it

But Cate was great as well, too bad she went as the same year as Helen

For you and everyone else, it was Gwyneth. Not Helen Hunt. You put up a brilliant argument of why Gwyneth shouldn't have won. Shakespeare in Love was more an ensemble piece than anything. Gwyneth was good, don't mistake that, which is why I never say she robbed Cate, but I think I would've voted for Cate too.

What can you say, the Academy went ga ga over Shakespeare in Love that year. I mean everyone thought Saving Private Ryan would win Best Picture and SiL dethroned it. Imagine, an Elizabethan romantic comedy period piece over a realistic WWII drama. Yep, they loved for sure. I did too.

Gwyneth deserved the Oscar over Cate IMHO. I think much more highly of Cate as an actress but I didn't think Elizabeth was as great a film as everybody made out at the time and neither was her performance.

Still, I look forward to Golden Age .

Gwyneth was good in SiL but Cate was phenomenal in Elizabeth. I absolutely love Cate Blanchett and I am looking forward to seeing Golden Age.

I voted for Gwyneth Paltrow, I think she is a lovely dame, but I was torn. If I had known she would go on to name a child "Apple," that could have swung me the other way.
