Arrow Olympic speedskating review thread

Results, comments and pictures in here

Men:
500m:
1 Casey Fitzrandolph (USA) - suprise!

2 Hiroyasu Shimizu (JPN) - "The Emperor" got silver after a bad season, so thumbs up!
3 Kip Carpenter (USA) - also surprising!

1000m:
1 Gerard van Velde - finally, fantastic, everything a champion should be!
2 Jan Bos - good.
3 Joey Cheek (USA) - well done!

1500m:
1 Derek Parra (USA) - very good, but stupid action after his race
2 Jochem Uytdehaage - his only silver medal at these games

3 Adne Sondral (NOR)- I don't like him, but even I have to respect him for being 3th with that injury!

5000m:
1 Jochem Uytdehaage-
2 Derek Parra (USA) - big surprise, very good
3 Jens Boden (GER) - completed the surprise at this stage

10000m:
1 Jochem Uytdehaage- again! and what a time!
2 Gianni Romme- showed that he has character, not the superman he was in Nagano
3 Lasse Saetre (NOR) - pretty surprising

Women:
500m:
1 Catriona LeMay-Doan (CAN) - of course!

2 Monique Garbrecht (GER) - like expected
3 Sabine Völker (GER) - pretty surprising

1000m:
1 Chris Witty (USA) - very impressive, she has Pfeiffer!

2 Sabine Völker (GER) - again surprising
3 Jennifer Rodriquez (USA) - well done

1500m:
1 Anni Friesinger (GER) - finally! I don't think there's anyone who didn't want her to win!

2 Sabine Völker (GER) - see 1000m
3 Jennifer Rodriquez (USA) - see Völker

3000m:
1 Claudia Pechstein (GER) - well done
2 Renate Groenewold - (she's missing in my avatar )
3 Cindy Klassen (CAN) - well done

5000m
1 Claudia Pechstein (GER) - 3th 5000m gold, impressive
2 Gretha Smit - in her 2nd 5000m since juniors everyone in the Netherlands loves her, and here she proved why!
3 Clara Hughes (CAN) - surprise!

And then I would wanna for Gerard van Velde (500m), Andrea Nuyt (500m), and Marianne Timmer (1000m) for their 4th places (so close!!!!), and even more for Bob de Jong, who collapsed during the Games and who is my fav!

I may not dare to show you
I might just walk away or crawl under another rock
It's so tempting

8 medals for us not bad

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

I was referring to him skating with the American flag right after his race. He should have waited till after the other races. This was disrespectful to the others, and especially ti those who still had to skate.

Great thread. And again, especially congrats to Gerard Van Velde!

If only I was sure that my head on the door was a dream

Thanx Crow

irma, I know But she said it was an old injury (which is pretty bad I think, if toring a ligament is an old injury!), and if it wouldn't have happened now, it would have happened 2 weeks later, so maybe we should be glad it happened after her race! But I wanted to see her skate an allround tournament!
