This is SO funny
Britain's victorious women's curling team has been offered a deal by a supermarket chain to promote floor cleaner.
Rhona Martin's team of gold medalists, who literally swept to victory at the Olympics on Thursday for Britain's first Winter Games gold medal since 1984, will find an offer from Safeway when they return home.
Part of the art of curling is brushing the ice ahead of the stone so that they can manipulate where it finishes. Safeway believes that the five-woman team have all the skills necessary to test its product and are planning to offer them a contract.
"The scrubbing movement by the team members is the ideal way to test kitchen and bathroom floor cleaner," a company spokesman said. "Safeway feel the girls could teach us a thing or two about scrubbing."
Praised by Prime Minister Tony Blair and offered by-up contracts by the tabloids, the victorious curlers are enjoying almost superstar status back home.
Britain was the surprise winner of the Olympic gold, barely making it through the round robin stage before upsetting defending champion Canada and then beating Switzerland.
The day before the curlers' success, the nation also collected a bronze medal when Alex Coomber placed third in the women's skeleton. The gold and bronze represent Britain's most successful Winter Games since 1936.
