Ladies Figure Skating Results-Michelle lost

An upset has occured, and Sara Hughes of the U.S. has won the gold.
Apparently Michelle fell.
This is the standings:

Sara Hughes-Gold
Irina-Silver(can't spell that last name)
Michelle Kwan-Bronze.
Sasha Cohen-4th place

I feel so bad for Michelle, she has be working for this all her life and now this. I just don't think with today's competition she will be back ever again. In 2006 the ladies or may I say (girls) will be doing quad quads, and Michelle won't be able to compete with them. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! Poor Michelle.

I'm getting sick of the sympathy votes for Kwan. How about the person who finished dead last that has been working her entire life for this also? You don't care about that. Kwan isn't the best. She's technically weak and artistically overrated. She lost, it's done, get over it.

Le Poussin! Faithfully ignoring the haters since 1995.

This was definately a day of upsets.... Canada upsetting USA in women's hockey, Great Britain winning the curling gold over Switzerland and now Hughes winning gold over Slutskaya and Kwan.... it was amazing. Hughes skated beautifully and her landing on that triple triple combination was stunning. Irina skated wonderfully as well but I think that one visible error during the combination probably cost her gold. Michelle skated so well going into this but fell in her long program. Of course, I feel bad for her but the two above her skated so much better.
I was also delighted by seeing our Canadian girl Jennifer Robinson finish 7th. Considering that we didn't even have a female competitor in the singles at the last olympics, I think that is quite the feat!! Jennifer's programs marked a huge improvement over the worlds last year, where she finished 15th.

Thumbs down

lola please. Thanks Miss. Lola for correcting my paper. Get over it, if I wan't to feel sympathy for Michelle, Scotsco I will. You have a right to feel the way you feel, so don't tell me how to feel.

I am so happy i am jumping up and down that Irina won the silver! Sarah Hughes clearly outskated everyone and the rightful winner NO QUESTIONS!

Irina played it safe, so did Michelle both rivals were tight and both had the gold in their reach.

I was hoping Michelle would win tonight, but as we know that wasn't the case.

I found myself a little upset that Michelle didn't win, but then I thought, she didn't skate her best tonight. If she would've won it would have been just like last week's pairs skating fiasco! The judges were fair and consistent, thank goodness. I'm still proud that an American took home the gold!

I am happy that the best girl won and that was Sarah Hughes! She skated like a true champion tonight and she deserved the gold! She was amazing!

Lindsay JCap fan, I am just dissapointed and I feel sorry for Michelle. The best skater TONIGHT won, and that's great. It's just that Michelle is the most elegant and accomplished skater, which is unfortunate. It's too bad for her, she will never have another chance to win gold. In 2006, she will be too old in figure skating to do the jumps.

am I the only one who though Sasha was far better artistically? Of course individual tastes differ with respect to this but Cohen imo put on a beautiful, varied display of artistic ability and imo would have deserved the silver medal if she did not fall on her combo triple...Sasha to me reminds me of another Lipinsky--just absolutely wonderful

Instead of "Michelle lost" in the title, why cant it be "Sara won"
The figure skating world doesnt revolve around Michelle Kwan, there are others too!

I really dont know a thing about ice skating (Ive only heard of Kwan and Slutskaya), but congrats to the American girl that won

Iva's #1 fan, hey you can create a new thread congratulating Sarah on her win which she deserves tonight IMO. However, I feel that if I wan't to vent over Michelle's loss then it should be no problem also .

And yes, ice skating doesn't revolve around ANYONE. You have a good point, and you are entitled to your opinion.

In relativity..

I really feel sorry for Cohen. The press kind
of hyped her up to beat MK and what happens..
the poor kid doesn't even medal.

There's a lesson in there.
Don't believe your own press.

Just a note - Michelle didn't LOSE anything.

She WON the bronze

She didn't have anything going in to the competition and left with a medal - there was no loss
