What happened to Irina Privalova?

Hi everyone, I always liked Irina and think she is an excellent runner. I haven't heard anything about her lately. Does anyone know if she is retired or injured?? Anything would help please!

She has been injured last year, but I don't know if she has retired yet. I hope not! She has spoken several times about giving it up. She wants to spend more time with her family. I don't have recent news.

I don't have recent news either.

Like Lola said, Irina was injured last year. Her plans included switching to 800m and running 800m in 2004 Olympics in Athens. I don't know if she still plans to run, or if she has decided to retire.

Here is an article about her from UK Hurdles Club site, but it's not too recent:

http://www.ukhurdlesclub.com/coachprivalova.htm

Here is the last paragraph from the article:

Initially Irina was to spend the 2001 season predominantly attacking the 400h World Record, however, recent injury had forced the abandonment of the year, and future plans were to include a build up to attempt to capture the Olympic title at 800m at the 2004 Olympics and her immediate future now lies in developing locomotive, cardio vascular and physiological aspects towards this end.

She's one of my favourite athletes.

I also hope that she hasn't retired. I fear she may have retired though. Injury really caught up with her these last 3 seasons, and I really thought that moving up to 400mH might help in this.

She's great though.

I don't think she will compete in Athens 2004, but who knows?

She took last year out to have knee surgery which was needed for her to continue with athletics. She intends to comeback over the 400m hurdles this season aiming for the Worlds next season. She hopes to move up to 800m for the Athens Olympics. She says she kind of wants to follow Jarmilla Kratochvilova's example and move up distance to prolong her career as she feels the explosive training she needed for 100m and 200m in the past is too much for her now. I hope she comes back. She could be the greatest 400m hurdler since Sally Gunnell.

Irina has been injured, but she's fine and has started her preparation for 800m in Athens. She won't compete much until then.

I heard she had major knee surgery last summer, right before the Track and Field World Championships. Udachi Irina! Make a great comeback.
