Re: Hopman Cup 2009

I have a strong feeling that Dulko will be back, simply because inviting Del Potro to play for Argentina will be too hard for McNamee to resist. Gisela is the only Argentinean woman to have a ranking high enough to justify being entered into an invitational tournament.

I don't really want to see Taiwan playing again, although they did do a good job last year. That's just my personal preference, I didn't really enjoy watching either player.

I really feel that Japan will be invited without having to play Asian HC. Nishikori gained some public interest at the USO and if McNamee can secure Sugiyama or even Morita, then that's a pretty decent team, especially if it's Ai.

I don't want to see Czech Republic competing again, at least not with Berdych/Safarova. They've come 2 years in a row and they haven't really impressed too much.

India have had their run too. Mirza is a star but not right now, and it's silly to invite them if they don't have a decent enough male player for singles. They can play Asian HC.

If the HC got Federer to play, the organisers and presenters would go insane. Schnyder/Federer would be an alright team. Or even a young Swiss girl with Federer. It wouldn't really matter, if McNamee somehow got Roger to agree to play, he'd grab a Swiss tourist visiting Perth to play if he had to.

Re: Hopman Cup 2009

Germany is part of the cup

Something was bound to go right sometime today, All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained, It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth, When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

Re: Hopman Cup 2009

Federer and Wawrinka are both playing Kooyong. Although Marat is as well, so it must be the week after Hopman Cup. Still, I think we can rule out Federer playing for Switzerland. I'm not sure whether Wawrinka would want to play both tournaments. I think Switzerland won't play at this Hopman Cup.

Asian Hopman Cup winners

Re: Hopman Cup 2009

Chinese Taipei?

I would have thought the only way for them to come back is through the Asian Hopman Cup? My picks for the the other 3 would be from USA, Spain, Argentina and Czech Republic. I don't know who would miss out...

Re: Hopman Cup 2009

I really don't want Chinese Taipei. I really really hope Venus plays for USA. She was meant to play with Dent a couple years back, and the team ended up being Harkleroad and Fish. I wouldn't mind seeing a Spanish team of Suarez Navarro and any male Spaniard apart from Robredo.

Re: Hopman Cup 2009

I wish there would be Daniilidou/Economidis or Baghdatis, but that won't happen.

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Re: Hopman Cup 2009

Venus is in Hong Kong too. So that only really leaves Serena playing for the USA. Or Lindsay. Anyone else will make for a weak US team.

Re: Hopman Cup 2009

Obviously a team of Daniilidou/Baghdatis wouldn't happen, the team members have to represent the same country.
