I hoping she can atleast make the 3rd round or QF, I guess since she don't have a bye she will play tomorrow or Monday

I noticed Caroline doesnt have Rory in her avatar anymore. How new is that?
Rory still has Caroline in his twitter pic

I think it's from the past few days. Caro did tweet that she thought this pic of Venus and her dog Harold was rather cute so maybe she was inspired by that.

What are your thoughts on Caro and the 2016 Olympics? I know this is way ahead in the future, but this is something Caro will have to consider right now because the rules states that Caro must play Fed Cup at least two times during 2014-16 in order to participate at Rio.

Denmark are at the bottom Fed Cup level rigth now (group III, which is the fifth level at Fed Cup). Denmark played a promotion playoff match against Liechtestein today but lost in spite of a good fight.

The level here is ridicuosly low; most of the nations including Denmark didn't have any ranked players on their teams. Ireland does have one ranked player, Amy Bowtell, ranked #500 or so, but she wouldn't even waste her time playing here. Norway and Cyprus sent junior teams.

What I'm saying is this: Danmark are also playing at this level in 2014, and the way things are going, probably also 2015. Should Caro say fuck the Olympics, or should she really go and play for Denmark against nations like Kenya, Armenia, Malta?

Finally I must to give some credit to the Danish players this week. There are two ranked Danish players, Woz and Barbat. Woz doesn't play Fed Cup, and Barbat has a knee injury. Still, the Danish team of unranked players did win both their matches against Namibia and Morocco 3-0. And Mai Grage made a huge upset by beating Stephanie Vogt of Liechtenstein (ranked #200 at WTA) in the playoff match for promotion. But unfortunately Denmark lost the other singles and the doubles match, so Liechtenstein got the promotion (well deserved, I have to say, with two top 500 players on their team).

Depending on when she retires 2016 may be her last chance to play the Olympics. I think she will do whatever she has to in order to qualify.

Given that Caro has played the Olympics twice already and that it seemed from Caro's comments that she didn't particularly enjoy it this time, I'd say forget about the Olympics in 2016. She can use that time to play a regular tournament or train.

I think it's a bit soon to already start thinking about the Olympics actually. If she wants to go she should. But it will only be to be part of the Olympic experience. It's unlikely that she will be able to contend for a medal even if she would come good again since it will probably be on clay.

I agree with Chrissie it way too early but i do think she will be at the next Olympic for sure

#2,601 ·
lol But I think she be there, I can't see her not being at the next Olympic IMO but we still have a long way too goo before the next Olympic lol anyway My Main Concern is her getting back into form, & start winning match Consistency again I know she might not be able too be at the level she was in 08-11 but I hoping next time she does get in good form she will win a slam, But mostly I want her too improve as a player I like too see her play like she did in 08-09 when she was going for her shot more often.

The Olympics are so far off. Who knows what her career will be like then.
She needs to win this next match, or who knows how bad this slump will turn out to be

Caro's projected stat line in her next Fed Cup tie with Armenia:
33 Winners,11 Aces,1 unforced error...and that's against the Armenian NUMBER ONE player!Just wait and see how dominant Caro is in the reverse singles:cool:

I basically agree that the Olympics are too far ahead. Who knows what's going with her career then? She could even be injured or pregnant. But I really think Caro would like to be at the next Olympics.

What makes it interesting at this point, is the career and scheduling choices she has to make. If she was going to play Fed Cup this year, then she'd have to skip Madrid! That would give her a zero pointer with her being a year end top 10. I'm not sure if WTA have a workaround for situations like this (probably not). I guess the problem is that Denmark is at the lowest Fed Cup level, while Caro is a top 10 player, which causes an awkward schedule. So playing Fed Cup could very well mean that she has to make a few career sacrifices each season in order to gain an olympic participation.

Regarding two or four Fed Cup participations in order to be eligible for the 2016 Olympics: The Danish Federation says Danish players need two Fed Cup participations in order to be elegible. The way the Danish Federation explains the rules sort of suggests that Denmark's circmstances are different from other countries (which may have something to do with Denmark being in the lowest Fed CUp group).

I can't really see it happening (Caro in Rio). I'd like her to be in Rio, and I'd also like her to play Fed Cup. But it just seems too awkward at the moment.

There were discussions about this after Israel in February on other player forums. The general consensus was no-one really cared yet because there were a variety of workarounds you could do. It's probably worth just watching what other top players are doing, because if they aren't participating there will be some way around it, because you won't have an Olympics with no Federer, no Nadal, no Murray, no Sharapova etc. For starters you can say that you did declare yourself available for your nation, but they chose not to select you because they wanted to give youngsters a chance or whatever, you have to remember all these federations want their best players playing, and will likely do anything to make sure they are involved.

I've had a look at Caro's GS singles win/loss record - depending on whether she also played in the doubles tournament or not:

GS singles W/L when she also entered doubles: 39/13 - 0.750
GS singles W/L when she didn't enter doubles: 25/11 - 0.694

The difference is 14-2. That's at least a GS title win (or two titles and two 1st round exits)! Yeah, I know. Manipulative stats if there ever were any! But it's sunday morning, and I'm bored. And I want her to play doubles, dammit!

#2,609 ·
I would also like to see her play doubles. Someone get these numbers to Caroline and/or Piotr as soon as possible!

Hmm, admittedly I am not overly familiar with Caroline's record in doubles but I believe that she typically loses fairly early (first or second match) so that may undermine your theory. If she ever took doubles seriously and found a steady partner it might have a greater impact on her singles results.

Doubles is very random. Pavlyuchenkova/Safarova just won Madrid, and they dont even play Fed Cup doubles.
Doubles takes focus and wanting to win. Caroline doesnt have that in singles, so I wouldnt expect it in doubles. When she loses in round 1, and that happens more than winning a round 2, she wants to leave. Take a vacation
She needs to get the fight back in singles. But she's certainly capable of playing top doubles with a good partner. Everyone is capable, the doubles level on WTA is very low when Williams dont play and Errani is tired from singles

One of the reasons why I'd like her to play doubles, is that she seemed to enjoy being on a court when she played doubles so much more than she does playing singles. It was a relaxed experience, fun. No pressure at all. She even used to say that all the pressure were on her partners (Hantuchova, for instance), because Caro didn't have any experience at all playing doubles.

Of course playing doubles also forces her to play at the net a lot more. But I'm not sure whether that will have any influence at all on her singles game. I'm actually quite doubtful that it will. But what I think my "manipulative stats" are saying, if anything can be read out of these at all, is that playing doubles doesn't affect her singles performances negatively.

She's generally been playing better singles when she's been playing doubles too! So playing doubles doesn't take any focus away from singles. Nothing suggests that. This can be purely incidental (probably is). But I'd still like to see her to play doubles again. Her best doubles result at a GS, btw, was 3rd round at UO 2009 - the same tournament where she has her best singles result! Incidental? No doubt. Still, playing doubles didn't exactly ruin her USO run that year...

I think the problems are deep for Caro now.
For her to compete so well at Dubai & IW, then to be suddenly in this situation is a very bad sign. The fight, the consistency, its all gone.
She almost has to rebuild from scratch, and I dont see it happening on clay or grass.
Whatever her dad and coaches have done to her the last 2 years, it took away the best parts of her game. She used to be consistent, focused and competed. Thats a rarity now.
I dont think the results matter until hardcourt again. The only important thing now is that she tries to win matches, which she stopped doing when she started making all the unforced forehand errors. If they keep going forward with this strategy, she might never be in a slam SF again.

Well Caro not playing tomorrow so i guessing she be playing Tuesday, I hoping Sven there, & Caro will be practicing and training alot with him

#2,616 ·
It's my understanding that the Adidas people don't work exclusively with 1 player.

#2,615 ·
Oh dear Caro don't know wat too say now she need some help IMO from someone else, Sven was one person she trust beside her dad so I don't know maybe he find time too work with the both of them, I hoping Her result Get better soon But if not I hoping she make an change and find an decent coach who she can trust

#2,620 ·
Yeah That what I thought Sven & Adidas program work with all the Adidas Players hopefully she can get some time and work with Sven or one of the other Adidas Coaches

#2,621 ·
Caroline plays first on Court Pietrangeli, will there be a stream for that court

#2,625 ·
^ Yeah I know But there was one for Gublis Match & he played on the same court

#2,630 ·
A loss in round 1 here would make you question how hard she is trying. But if she can lose to Pervak, Wang, Muguruza, Voegele... anything's possible.
But this is a draw where a run into decent form is a possibility

#2,631 ·
Some of the pessimists here will probably say that Caro could lose to a ballgirl who had a decent serve in her youth league, but I'd like to think that she's capable of producing a nice result tomorrow morning....that's CARO and NOT the ballgirl;)
