Muguruza may not be 100% for her match against Caro: "Muguruza was injured when she fell in the second set, and ultimately had to call for the trainer, who taped up her ankle. She looks like she's been to war, with bandages all over, but there she is, still around, and winning".

And Caroline might NEED that edge, based on how much she struggled in today's match vs. an inferior opponent.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

From a selfish perspective,it's not likely going to affect Caroline in any significant way if today's matches get all rained out.Miami's 2-week schedule, plus its loads of courts to play on,means that it's far easier to overcome rain-postponed matches than it is at MMs like Koala Dung-pure.Still,Miami is a place where long stretches of rain are much more than a remote possibility. Therefore,if they really want their tourney to DESERVE being referred to as a '5th Slam',they should think about a retractable roof for the stadium court in case they ever have one of those extended rainy periods, during their tourney, that Miami occasionally has

5-7 6-3 6-3 win against Karolina Pliskova

Not promising. Caroline, please beat Muguruza in straight sets

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Horrible score vs. Pliskova. She really needs to do better when she want to win. Murguruza not bad. But Rory there, so she will not win

Muguruza is no hack, yet this result is not what we'd call 'progress' from Caroline....I'm outta here till nightfall

Caro will drop to #10 as a result of this. Plus the race that was looking good for Caro after Indian Wells, I imagine is going to look a whole lot worse after Miami.

I think it might be good for her in the long run if she drops out of the top ten for an extended period. That seems to be the last bit of her former glory that she is clinging to, that she is in the top ten. If that goes away maybe she will really buckle down and work on fixing the flaws in her game?

Caro has pretty much no chance to get a top 8 seeding for the big events until after the French Open now.

Well, looks like the injury only made Muguruza more determined. Caro will need to up her game during the claycourt season if she wants to make it to the big YEC. This will be her golden chance to earn enough points.

I think this is very bad for her future. It shows that its going to be harder for her to be as consistent as she used to be.
This is 3 bad matches in a row. The hardcourt season is over. Everyone still sees Caroline as a weak seed who they want in their sections.
Now comes clay, where Caroline didnt reach a QF at all in 2012

While I see your point. I am not sure I really go along with it. For me really she should have had enough wake up calls already, when you go from number 1 to the bottom end of the top 10 in such a short space of time overtaken by your main rivals (from your age group) that really should be all the motivation you need. Of course being in the top 10 in any professional sport is a great achievement, but to just be accepting of that when you were number 1 a couple of years prior would be poor.

The main fear I would have is if you drop out of the top 10, you just appear to be on a downward spiral of gradual decline. I can't think of any player that has ever returned to their previous heights from such gradual decline. The longer she keeps losing ground on her rivals, the less and less likely it becomes that she will ever catch up with them imo.

A month off until Stuttgart, a lot of time to work on her game. I hope she doesn't waste her time following Rory around or doing more physical training.

I have heard that argument and it is valid but I just don't think that it does her any good to float around the nine-eleven spot in the rankings. She can keep saying to herself "at least I am still in the top ten" and I don't think that is helping her. She has had more than enough wake up calls (I thought that Cincinnati and Toronto, 2011 would have been enough) but we haven't seen any signs of her turning her game around, the only thing left is to drop out of the top ten for an extended period. It might end up hurting her but is she really much better off the way things have been the last two years?
