Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 11

I just woke up and only caught the last few points, guess I didn't miss too much. Our only hope is that it's the first match of the season and she still has Sydney to improve before AO. But of course this makes you fear that 2013 will just be a repeat of the worst parts of 2012 with a great deal of close losses against non-top players.

NB: Calendarwise we're still in 2012, of course, so let's hope for something better than this in 2013

I guess it may be a good thing she didn't reach the QF and Vika. Playing like this, it would have gotten ugly, I think.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 11

Caro is so much like JJ after her year end #1 season in 2008. I'm wondering at what point Caro will fall off big time like JJ did last year. Sigh.

Captain Matthew Gideon: I may have an idea.
Dureena Nafeel: I don't think you've recovered from your last good idea.

I see...back to Piotr, back to pushing, nothing changed from early 2012

may your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.

If anyone is into some selftorture, Woz-Pervak is being reaired right now on Tv2 Sport. Odd that, because I thought they would be live from 10 am to 12 am.

We all may be in for a rough year if I am the voice of optimism but it is just one match and the season is just underway. Traditionally Caroline is a slow starter, we should give her more time. If she loses early at the Australian Open and does not show any signs of turning things around by the end of March then I will be right there with you two pushing the panic button.

I agree, to be honest Caro has always sucked at the Australian swing. Somehow for the last two years she has found some form in Melbourne, let's see if this year is the same or she's just done.

Hopefully she will get it together with upcoming tournaments. Pervak caught her by surprise, judging by the comments on the match.

I don't think we can blame her disappointing results on Rory or a lack of preperation. Just look at her. You don't get as fit as her without putting in a lot of hard work.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 11

I, like many of you on here was ready to throw in the towel last night in terms of hoping she could somehow be a genuine top 10 contender this year but then I realised that barring 2012, Caroline has lost her opening WTA match in most of the relevant seasons she's played, and was 4-0 down in the third set with her opponent having points for 5-1(or thereabouts) even last year. I genuinely thought she was caught off guard after the easy first set and then Pervak's increased confidence carried her through the third. Fortunately we have another tournament to gauge her form and for her to get a decent result under her belt. Now that she's suffered this loss I'm sure she'll go to Sydney far more prepared than she was for this.

I agree with DownInAHole, let's wait till post IW/Miami to declare her JJ mark II. It could happen, it may even be a likelihood but let's wait and see first

Those players were a lot higher ranked than Pervak though.

Caro really shouldn't be caught off guard anymore after an easy first set considering how many times she's had a letdown after that.

Yes,it´s a disappointing start but still,it is only a start. A lot worse things would have to happen for Caro to get as fed up with tennis as JJ did. Apart from her Errani and Kvitova also lost early, this time in r2.
