Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 11

I'm thinking positive now. This is pretty much her level for 18 months.
She has to work on short balls. Just cant tap them to a player standing at the net.
In general has to keep working. I figure she's in the 10-20 range. We'll see if she can beat players like Stephens, Robson and Makarova. Those players are improving, and Caroline will have a lot fo competition in the 10-20 range.
I really would like her to work on things near the net. It didnt look professional

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 11

She still hasn't learned when to go for it, 5-4 15-30 is the moment. Then at 6-5 30-0 down she smacks a return forehand winner. I mean she clearly can go for it but she just waits too late for it.

Marion plays in Paris, so Caro may be 250-300 points behind her...

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 11

I think all things considered Caroline played a good match. It was another one of those 'it could have gone either way' matches. Problem is that for the last eighteen months or so those 'could have gone either way' matches far too often end up being won by her opponent. That for me is the biggest difference between the current Caro and the Caro of old.

Moral victories do us and Caro no good at this point.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 11

Caroline should have and could have beaten Kuznetsova to reach quarters in Aus Open if she had hit her returns deeper, as too many were returned to service line. Also, she was hitting to Kuz too often, and won more points when she hit away from opponent. She also had a nice lob deep and should have come in behind the ball and taken at the net. She cannot beat top players in round of 16 and beyond to finals without strategy.

Yah, she's definitely lacking confidence in big moments. Her brain seems to freeze under pressure.

The success she had last autumn hasn't really translated into confidence in this new season.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 11

I'm crying! It's painful to watch she lost to someone she can beat many time like Kuznetsova.
OK! Kuznetsova was former world no.2, 2 Glandslam Champion and great player who never been world no.1
Caro used to beat her with her level but now……she losing 2 times in a row. No excuse , Kuznetsova doesn't play her best.
I can't imaging when Caro play Vika right now. Vika is play aggressive like Kuzzy but she can defend and not a error machine like Kuzzy.
I hope Caro will come across her rhythm again.

Yeah, I think we all went thru this as the last 18 months have evolved. She plays okay, but not good at the end of close sets and matches.
Everything is a little off. Serve, groundies, strategy, consistency.
Its been so long now since she was getting thru early rounds with no problems.
To me, there's a lot of problems just from not having a coach. She seems lost during matches.
How many times has she been blow off the court in round 1? Happened here a year ago. Kanepi at FO, Begu. Almost every major she starts like she's asleep the first set.
If she is another Jankovic the rest of her career and she doesnt hire a full time coach, its because she had early success and likes a comfort zone in her daily life, even though it seems her game is lost now. Whatever they do in practice and training, it doesnt come out as improvement in her game.

She really should have learned that lesson after the 2011 Oz Open loss to Li.
