Re: Multi sports thread

Fed broke Nadal 4 times in the 1st 3 sets (1 in set 1, 1 in set 2, 2 in set 3), but 0 times in set 4 and 5 combined as of 3-2 5th set.

Captain Matthew Gideon: I may have an idea.
Dureena Nafeel: I don't think you've recovered from your last good idea.
Captain Matthew Gideon: That would explain it.

Re: Multi sports thread

I can't believe Fed won. Wow.

Fed came from 2-0 and 3-1 down in the 5th set to hold for 6-3 5th set from 15-40 down.

Re: Multi sports thread

Okay, first of all, you are justified in ignoring any sports that emanate from the US out of disgust for what has transpired there on the political scene. Secondly, this post is--in no way--an attempt to piss on the legacy of commendable accomplishments of Tom Brady, Coach Belichick or the Patriots franchise. They had to win their conference championship over a long-haul season merely to REACH the SB. They can't be blamed for meeting one of the most gutless participants in the recorded history of organized athletics going all the way back to the Olympics in Ancient Greece.

Tonight, I was struck with a sense of gratitude that I didn't grow up in Atlanta or ever publicly identify myself as a Falcons fan. I'm filled with pity for all of the young boys who have to attend school in the US tomorrow and face the utter humiliation of being identified with such a chickenshit team if they ever supported those losers.

For you Europeans or citizens of other continents who don't grasp the sport too well, let me put it in terms you can relate to: Imagine yet another fixed futbol match that goes down to penalty kicks...and then one of the teams doesn't have ONE member who's willing to step up to the pressure of taking a kick to win the match...so the other team wins by default.....Basically, that's what happened in Houston.

Fortunately for the NFL, it has expanded its fanbase enough that most folks don't realize what a disgraceful display took place from one half of the involved parties. Still, the NFL commissioner is known as an authoritarian figure, so he should relish taking a few measures to preserve the integrity of the sport:

1. The Atlanta franchise should be dissolved...or at least suspended for a couple of years to let their rotten stench dissipate. The NFL could adjust its schedule for next season with only 31 teams...or it could hold an emergency expansion draft to let a city who is bidding for a new franchise field a team on a trial basis for 2017.
2. In the same way that PED users are banned for their acts of moral turpitude, the entire Falcons roster--including the coaching staff--should be banned from the NFL for a year due to extreme cowardice. There would be a special lottery for the rest of the teams to acquire WR Julio Jones--the only halfway-respectable player on that roster. Anyone stupid enough to sign any of Jones' loser teammates(at the end of the one-year suspension) deserves whatever ill fate befalls them.
3.Any reference to the Falcons' existence would be deleted from the NFL website. Their team gear would be offered to local homeless people in each NFL city to serve as kindling to stay warm at night. Any food from the concession stands at the Georgia Dome could be donated to refugees at Atlanta's airports who are temporarily blocked from seeking asylum in that godforsaken cesspool nation. Aside from Julio Jones, the Falcons players would forfeit their game checks so that refugees would have the funds to relocate to a far-less-racist country, such as Canada.

.....Those ought to be adequate measures, for now

Re: Multi sports thread

Forgot something absolutely crucial yesterday--Matt Ryan should have to surrender his unwarranted MVP trophy and be forced to watch as it's melted down in front of him. In the NFL archives with the list of MVP winners, for 2016 it would read, "Not awarded due to gross procedural error."

After pondering it for a moment, I can see where the best solution would be to have rotating Canadian Football League teams take Atlanta's place on the schedule for every team that was slated to play them next year. The CFL teams would benefit from the publicity and be compensated extra for any travel burdens. A yearlong survey of NFL fans outside of Atlanta could determine whether or not the Falcons deserved to be re-instated to the league in 2018.

I thought about a plan to distribute Falcons-related clothing to the homeless or very-low-income families, except it would be too humiliating for the homeless to be seen in public wearing that gear...so a better solution would be shipping it to 3rd-world nations such as Borneo where the NFL market is sufficiently low so as not to embarrass the wearer. Athletic gear would be donated to high-school teams in poorer communities...with the helmet logo painted over, of course. Since both their current and recently-built facilities are indoors and climate-controlled, they could serve as shelters for battered women, refugees, or the homeless, and that would be excellent p.r. for the league

Re: Multi sports thread

The ATP is becoming as unpredictable as the WTA! Murray just lost his first match at IW to a guy outside top 100 (Pospisil, who?)! Djokovic lost his mojo after winning FO last year and just doesn't have the same drive anymore. All respect to Federer for winning AO but he's 35 and regularly plagued by injuries. I don't see him dominating the tour in the years to come. Wawrinka is as up and down as always. Nadal plays fairly well but hasn't won anything since clay season last year. Raonic and Nishikori are great players but have yet to win a GS. So, after having been dominated by just a few players at a time for many, many years, the ATP is suddenly anybody's game!

Madison Brengle: "I'd rather chew on a pinecone than play this match (against Wozniacki)."
Nicole Melichar: "Do you want me to go find you one?"

Well - we'll see. Yes Novak has lost his consistency and dominance and Murray has lost unexpectedly in a couple of tournaments. But it's a bit of a stretch to say the ATP is as unpredictable as the WTA where there's so many seeds losing and the tournament winners are a surprise all the time (apart from the AO).

Re: Multi sports thread

Player approaching 36 years old is dominating the Atp now. Freaking ridiculous.

When is a young player going to win a Masters 1000 tournament let alone a slam?

Re: Multi sports thread

Federer and Kyrgios have now been playing 6 sets against each other and they've all been TBs! I wonder how long they can keep that up!?
