Thanks,Ozza, so there must be 6 qualifiers who reach the MD. That's fairly uncommon yet not altogether bizarre

Re: Multi sports thread

I'm over a day late but congratz to Lewis on his 1st GP victory with Mercedes. Thoroughly deserved and he made it happen with his pole position and then in the race those overtaking moves on Button and Webber.

On another note - there was a rumour Alonso wanted to move to Red Bull. They asked Vettel what he thought about it and he could barely contain that was the last thing he wanted.

Caroline Wozniacki

Chris Evert, Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters

I think he said hed prefer Kimi, because hes an honest and nice human being, implying Alonso is a liar and an asshole.

I am not a fan of the direction a lot of Maria threads have taken over the last 12 months.
The undertone is very disappointing, aggressive and the comments are sometimes rude to a player just trying to earn a living, playing her hardest and having a good amount of success given her god given, natural talents.
You made the list: NEW President Bouchard, Cibulkova, Mladenovic, Wozniacki, Kerber, Cornet, Watson, Broady.

Madison Brengle: "I'd rather chew on a pinecone than play this match (against Wozniacki)."
Nicole Melichar: "Do you want me to go find you one?"

Congratz to Lotte and the European Solheim Cup team. They've won the Solheim cup for the first time ever when playing away over in the USA.

And didn't our rookies do well.

Caroline Wozniacki

Charley Hull (and Lexi Thompson) are going to be so rich. Amazing talent. Craemer was lucky she was a bit nervous early or Hull would have won like 10&8. SugarPova better watch her back. Hullypops are coming.

Ciganda is truly the female Seve. What a mess she makes off the tee only to hit amazing recovery shots and 45 foot putts. 3-0 for the week.

Hedwall first ever to go 5-0 as a wildcard after a stunning rookie debut two years ago. New Poulter. Nice she beat that annoying bitch Wie for the decisive point.

Wonder how that traitor daughter of Petr Korda feels now.

About the only time Id watch female golf, but its a great concept and a lot of fun.

Chardy wins. Scheepers - Simmonds next and the winner faces Caro 2R.

Madison Brengle: "I'd rather chew on a pinecone than play this match (against Wozniacki)."
Nicole Melichar: "Do you want me to go find you one?"

Re: Multi sports thread

Fed looked good today. True, against pretty poor opposition, but still. Good start to the tournament for the great man.

For the old man.

Captain Matthew Gideon: I may have an idea.
Dureena Nafeel: I don't think you've recovered from your last good idea.
Captain Matthew Gideon: That would explain it.

Re: Multi sports thread

Fed couldn't even make it to a QF encounter with Nadal but got knocked out in straights by a guy outside the top 20. I think it's time to acknowledge that Fed has gotten old (32) and just isn't a slam contender anymore. He'll most likely always be the most naturally gifted player the game ever saw but even a genius can't outrun Father Time.

He can still play some good ball but mentally it just isn't there anymore. It was painfull to see him make a mess out of all those breakpoint opportunities he's had and to see him lose it even on his own serve when the match got tight. The sad thing is not so much that he lost the match but much more the way he lost it. The only positive thing is that he at least won't be humiliated by Nadal in the QF. It's sad to say it, but he should call it a career at this point. He's arguably the GOAT but the writing is on the wall. Nobody wants to see him slowly (or quickly as is currently happening) drop down the rankings and put himself into the position of career best win on the resume of every second or third tier player on the tour.
