Looked much better by the end, the start was worrying though. I'll ignore it ever happened

Wickmayer, who edged Garrigues 7-5 in the 3rd. H2H is 5-0 but this is their first grass match so it's a little hard to predict. Caro's the favorite, though, beating YW as late as Miami this year.

Edit: Both Li Na and Paszek lost their matches today, so if Caro makes it to 3R she'll face Hantuchova or Cornet.

What she was doing at Wimbledon looked a bit awkward. If I recall correctly she had her feet spread quite far apart when she started her service motion. Whatever she was doing today looked smoother.

The way the draw played out, QF is reasonable to expect if she plays like she did in the third. She won't go further though, that will be like a brick wall.

If she gets that far there is no guarantee that Serena will be there waiting.

Whoever will be there will be too much I think. She's not going to raise her level this quickly, a better player would have beaten her today.

Yep. The 'Marion Bartoli service stance' looked strange. Bizarre really and it's been modified. If it has anything to do with the heavily strapped ankle, is anyone's guess (but if the ankle isn't 100% 100%, a very wide stance will put extra strain on the ankle).

Speaking about technicalities, I don't think that racket is stringed at 21 kg anymore. It sounded and looked much harder. More like back to the 27'ish, where she came from.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 10

Since she won it is easy to say this but it's probably good that she had a long three set match. I'm sure that she has practised a lot but this was her first win on grass this year, hopefully she can get better the deeper she gets. She looked pretty good in the second and third sets but a win against Wickmayer is far from a lock.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread v 10

Caroline really needs some points, so I hope she'll reach that quarter final. Might help her confidence as well. As for Serena, she's not invincible anymore. She lost some huge matches this year against Makarova, Razzano...and Wozniacki. Everything can happen.

I forgot all about that little experiment. Maybe we will hear something about it in an interview/article this week.

Serena "only" had eight aces in her first match, maybe we can hope that her serve is a bit off?

If they did change the string tension back to the old level, I think that's a mistake. She really could use the extra pop she seemed to be getting.

Maybe they could go with some in between level as a transitional measure.

She served well though. Maybe not that many aces, but lots of unreturnables. And it wasn't a long match, so eight aces is pretty good going.

Yes. I wondered what had happened with the added weight of shot in the first set. I would like to see her continue in the vein of the Paszek match at Wimbledon - same service action, same string tension, same everything. She lost that one, but I liked what I saw.
