Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread 9

I was too quick in assuming McHale would be Caro's next opponent. After losing the first 10 games, Cetkovska won 13 of the last 15! I think McHale may have been injured in set 2, though.
Caro beat Cetkovska in their only previous meeting, New Haven last year. Caro wasn't playing particularly well at that time, either, so I'd say she's the favorite this time, too. We can't take much for granted with Caro at the moment, though!

Nicole Melichar: "Do you want me to go find you one?"

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread 9

5 winners 15 unforced errors isn't good for Caro. If Caro is going to hit so few winners she needs to keep her unforced error total lower.

I don't really see how these stats are good to be honest. If anything, they show that she was extremely passive once again and a player making less errors would have given her a much harder time.

Five winners in a 16-game match aren't enough, not even for Caro.

Not to mention Zahlavova Strycova is hardly one of those very big hitting players that it can to be hard to hit winners against (such as Kvitova). Caro should have had the time to be able hit some winners if she wanted to.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread 9

Yeah the stats aren't good, I guess you could excuse her because ZS was making so many UE. Caro hits more winners when she can rally and I don't think there were many rallies today. I do hope she steps up if she gets the chance to meet Kim, even if it costs her, she can't accept another first set like the one she had in AO.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread 9

So stats are all about subjective winners and UE's now are they? This is the Caroline section right?

Well, we are used to seeing her win matches with few winners but usually the winners/unforced errors ratio is closer. When that ratio becomes tilted toward more unforced errors than winners she is in trouble. Having three times as many unforced errors as winners is not a good sign.

I think the point is that she was a bit fortunate that her opponent hit fifty-six(!) unforced errors. Surely Caroline will need to do better if she has any hope of a deep run.

Probably not. Tennis Channel in the US is I think the only source of Wta coverage tomorrow and I think they'll stick to the 2 biggest courts (stadium and grandstand). Even if there is coverage of matches from court 1, there are other matches potentially going on during the same time period that they would air like Sharapova vs Stephens.

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread 9

Anderson - Querey is at 2-1 3rd set, and when they're finished there's another ATP match before Caro is on. If Sharapova wraps her match up quick there's a more than 2 hour hole on Stadium before the next match there. I wonder if they'd consider moving Caro's match?

Re: Caroline's Live Scoring Thread 9

Well, they did move Caro's match... but to Court 2! It's about to start.
