It wasnt Caro's best tennis, but she survives to the semis
Imo it was a good match for Caro to win. Winning a semi tight match can only be good confidence. Of the other 3 left, only Arvidsson seems to be anywhere near her best form. And even so I'd be very surprised if Caro didn't beat her. It would be a good platform to win here and in Sofia for next year, even if the top 8 aren't present.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

I've typed this many times the last few weeks.
I think she needs wins. I dont expect her to be in her YEC 2010 form now. If she can keep winning maybe the rhythm of her game & her confidence will go up and she will get there.
So I consider this a big win, and next round will probably be tough also. They played at IW, and this year Caro is going to struggle if Sophia plays well.

I didn't see the match - so nice blog.

Anyway WD Caro and good luck against Arvidsson.

I'd be really happy if Caro could win Moscow and Sofia, or even play well in the rest of her matches. Looks like her serve has been pretty decent this week, no? Anyway, positive last few weeks and looking forward to Oz.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

Just checked the H2H with Stosur a little while ago,and three of the five matches were played before either player really began her ascendancy. The fourth was in the 2009 Osaka final only about a month after Caroline had her big breakthrough at the 2009 USO...and the fifth was in the RR stage of 2010 YEC,where a loss didn't stop Caro from advancing to the semis.Basically, the two haven't had what you'd call an intense rivalry by any stretch. As for Caro's OTHER potential finals opponent,well...I didn't read the comic strip section of the newspaper today,so I haven't gotten any updates on her.Hopefully,Caro would find it within herself to somehow win THAT matchup

Sofia is now an 'official' punchbag: H2H 7-2 Caro.
But considering how tough their latest matches have been, Sofia doesn't feel much like a punchbag to me!

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

2 matches in a row she had a chance to serve out the match in 2 sets and had to go 3.
But she won, and a premier final. Either Ana or Sam will be tougher competition, and Caro going for title #20, needs to step up to the next level

Yup, it will be a challenge. Whoever it is I'm really looking to the final. I think Caro is hungry for a title, hope she'll get through.

Left the WTA page so don't know if Caro's opponent has been decided yet(will head back quickly before leaving for work), but can you Europeans confirm for me that the final is set for 10am LondonTime(1pm in Moscow).I might wake up extra-early to watch tomorrow on livestream

Yes, same time as today and yesterday.

I just came across and article saying Rory wanted to follow Caro in Moscow but he couldn't get a visa!?

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

Stosur it is. SS leads H2H 3-2 and 2-0 on HC. Their last match was YEC 2010. The decisive factor in that match was BP conversion. As I recall, SS was 2/3 while Caro was 0/6. Neither of them have had a stellar season: Caro sliding from #1 to #11, SS from #6 to #9. Their W/L is almost similar: Caro 45-20, SS 44-21. Caro has won 1 title this seaso, SS zero. But SS is 10-4 in GSs while Caro is only 6-4.

An important factor is how well Caro can handle Stosur's kick serve. It didn't look as lethal today as on other occasions (no aces). Another factor is Stosur's net play. The surface is so slow I don't think she can hit through Caro consistently, but I can well imagine her hitting good approach shots which Caro can only just get to and then move to the net. Caro's passing shot must be spot on, her serve must be better than today and she must be ice cold on BPs if she wants to win this match. Caro has been on court nearly 5 hours the last two days so Stosur is probably better rested.
Stosur is 55/45 favorite in my eyes.

Edit: If Caro wins tomorrow and manages 4 wins in Sofia, it'll be the 5th season in a row she has won 50 matches or more.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

I think in general she's playing better. She won a title, made this final, beat Li, close to Kerber. No bad losses these last 4 tournaments.
There's still another level to climb, because you have to get past players like Kerber and Stosur to get to Vika & Maria & Serena.

So this is another step on the way, but definately some positive signs.
And I hope she plays Bulgaria.

I'm quite excited about this match with Sam. Most of the time this year I haven't seen her play because she hasn't actually made it to the weekend when I can see her. I really hope she can win this. It would be a very good win to get if she could.
