Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

Here's a bit of trivia involving the 2008 New Haven final:

Chakvetadze was 2 points away from serving for the match at 4-4 2nd set. Caro was up 30-15 then it went to 30-30, Caro double faulted at 40-30 to go to 40-40. Caro held for 5-4 2nd set despite 2 double faults in that game.

Caro lost the last game of the 1st set and the 1st game of the 2nd set despite being up 40-0 in both games. Caro was down 5-4 1st set but up 40-0 on Chakvetadze's serve, Caro was up 40-0 on her serve to start off the 2nd set and had 6 game points in that game.

It took Caro 4 set points to break for 6-4 2nd set. Caro had 40-0 on Chakvetadze's serve but needed a double fault on her 4th set point to finally break.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

Looks like she has a good chance to go to the YEC as an alternate. Thats not bad, although she probably will be better off to land outside the top 10 & have less restrictions in scheduling Intl's.
Intl's dont guarantee titles, Jankovic lost 2 Intl finals this year. Caro lost hers.
But it gives Caro more flexibility to schedule with Rory

You didn't just say that .. Should Caro finish at a YE position outside top 10, I still cannot see much change to her 2009-2012 schedule, if she's just semi serious about her tennis.

And I have to believe, she still is ... Granted, a finish outside top 10 would allow for scheduling any tournament nearest to where Rory is playing that week, but ...

Seriously, if she's factoring this stuff into her career planning than we better give up hope right away.

I don't think she'd be allowed to play S-Hertogenbosch instead of Eastbourne (unless she really sinks in the rankings whereby she's not subject to the play-down rules).

Yes, that's if she drops out of the Top 10 I believe, players below that have no scheduling restrictions.

Year end top 10 players aren't allowed to play down when there's a premier 5 or premier mandatory tournament that week. I don't see anything about regular premier tournaments.

Lets be realistic. This relationship is very important to her.
I've never seen a high ranked player lose round 1 at a major & be out in public like that for days. And that loss to Paszek was her 5th loss in 7 matches.
Then she's walking a golf course in Ireland day after day.

Its her life, her career. When you are healthy & you go from holding 9 titles to holding none this quickly, she's telling everyone how important this relationship is.
She can still be in it and have success on court. She has to figure out how

Sure, but I'm pretty sure the other girls have important relationships as well. I still don't understand why she can't show the same sort of restraint and focus than her peers... you don't see other players being followed by their boyfriends like lapdogs.

I still feel it's not unreasonable to ask for that, all the other top players are doing it.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 5

What she was doing was very hard. Some people think being a slamless #1 destroys careers, like Jankovic or Safina.
But Ivanovic won a slam and was #1, and fell off just as badly.

Its hard to stay near the top. Maybe she would have fallen off anyway. A lot of people were predicting this falloff even when Caro was winning

That's a rather inane question which no one can answer. I'm just saying if she keeps improving her game, she'll win more matches and eventually tournaments again. At first it could be something like Korea Open, competing with players in the 10-20 rankings. Maybe this year, maybe next. But that's assuming she continues to improve things like serve, FH, net play etc.
I'm hoping she continues to work with TJ because I think he has a good influence on her. His family and other commitments likely won't allow him to be a full time coach, but if he can be with her half the season or so it's better than nothing.

Insults to both Caroline and Rory, with a self serving tag line...

Best summation of narcissism I have seen in a long time.

Again, other players don't act like that..what's your response to that?

I find it kind of strange that Caro's not playing today.
