Re: Womens Tennis in General

I'm not worried. Maria is obviously toying with Vika only to crush her hopes in the third.

The heat rule is in effect.

Sharapova hasn't lost a match in which she won the 1st set in since the 2010 Cincy final against Kim.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

I think this break helps Sharapova more than it does Vika, Sharapova came back stronger from match interruptions all week.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Has Azarenka been asked about or said anything about her improved fitness this year? I don't believe she had any retirements this year (something she has been known for in the past).

What's even more impressive is that she hasn't lost in her entire career in which she won the third set!!!

No, I don't think so.

She retired from Montreal with a knee "injury" but she pretty much admitted that she simply wasn't ready to play right after the OG.

If that is true it is another example of the low standards in tennis journalism. Her lack of fitness was arguably the thing she was most criticised for and now that she has largely fixed that flaw she wasn't even asked about it? Seems like a very obvious question to me.

Big hold for Vika for 1-0 3rd set from 15-30 down. Sharapova seemed to retake the aggressor role in that game.

The reporters are busy asking her about the grunting, that horse hasn't been beaten to death enough quite yet..

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Argh. Sharapova holds for 1-1 3rd set from 0-30 down. Vika hit a smash into the net at 30-30.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Two bad misses in there, that could have been a break.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

It's slowly becoming the epic match one could have expected, especially considering the conditions.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

I think that "team Maria" will be taking this one on the chin. Azarenka has been holding fairly easily but Maria is really struggling in her service games. Sooner or later Vika is going to get a break.

I don't know, she had her fair shares of break chances in these two games and she blew them all.

2-2, close to 10 minutes on that game.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Argh. Sharapova holds for 2-2 3rd set from 15-40 down and saving another break point.

This is reminding me kind of the Sharapova/Kvitova 3rd set in the Australian Open semis where Kvitova had a bunch of chances to break but couldn't convert and Sharapova had I think 1 chance but she converted.
