I saw the match, and IT DID affect her a lot. But in a typical example of the lower ranked player choking when they get a chance to beat the bigger name it affected her the most when she was in a position to win. She lost for example the tiebreak 7-0. There were basically two totally different looking parts to this match. Pre and post rain delay. Pre-rain Kvitova played pretty poorly while Pervak was solid. Post-rain Pervak played VERY poorly while Kvitova was in GOAT mode.

That's what must make Petra frustrating to watch for her fans. She rarely plays a 'clean match.' She's clearly an incredible talent, but she plays three or four games where you think that she's the greatest thing ever, followed by three or four games that leave you wondering how she ever made the top 50. But if she gets it right....

It's true though that like has been said many times before that the American climate really has a negative impact on Petra. After twenty minutes of play her face already looks as red as a lobster and she clearly is suffering out there.

Is it just me or does Vika seem better on slow/slower hard courts than fast/faster hard courts?

Traditionally she does better from January-March rather than from August-October.

OMG - Ana. Double bagel loss against Vinci. No - not against Serena Williams but against ROBERTA VINCI. The poor girl really has zero self-confidence, and I regret to say also zero fighting spirit.

At least VIP fans can follow her beat-down on a live stream. We have to settle for score updates

Ana got beat. Real bad. Red headed step child bad.

I really don't get it. Of course her game has weaknesses but talent wise she should be in the top ten. She really needs to do something now to turn herself around. If Maria can come back so can Ana. She's still fairly young, maybe she can be like Capriati and have a late career resurgence?

No, except for the fact that she keeps getting skinnier by the minute. But other than that I think there's something mentally wrong with Ana. 35 UE in twelve games for a 46 minute match.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Apparently Ana had thirty-five unforced errors in twelve games. If you do the maths that works out to nearly three unforced errors per game. It's virtually impossible for anyone to win when you are giving away that many points per game.

I meant 'live stream' in a general sense. .. a court with cameras, not like the National Bank court *sighs*

But both Sharapova and Capriati believed in themselves. Ana may have the tools, but if there isn't that inner believe it just ain't gonna happen. It kinda surprises me because she's had a reasonable last twelve months - the best she's had in years really, and now this. It's not the losing this match that's the problem. It's not even that she lost 6-0/6-0 that's the problem. But completely (and I mean COMPLETELY) imploding, giving up, folding like a napkin - that's a problem to say the least.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Shuai could have helped Caroline a little had she defeated Marion.

Back to Ana, this may be a little cruel but her performance today kind of underscores that the organisers made the right decision two years ago when they refused to give her a wildcard.

Sabine loses to CSN after being up 3-0 in the third

Plus there's something wrong with her health as well...it just never stops.
