Re: Womens Tennis in General

Angelique Kerber just defeated Timea Babos 6-1 6-1. Jimmie48 will be ecstatic to see his countrywoman through to the next round.

Don't celebrate too soon though. Kerber is a tough cookie.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

R16
Azarenka vs Petrova
Venus vs Kerber
Serena vs Zvonareva
Wozniacki vs Hantuchova
Clijsters vs Ivanovic
Lisicki vs Sharapova
Kvitova vs Pennetta
Kirilenko vs Goerges

All the no-names have been eliminated. The only one I'm a bit surprised to see here is Pennetta who hasn't had a very good year, she's still top 20, though. All the matches are worth a watch in my opinion.

Madison Brengle: "I'd rather chew on a pinecone than play this match (against Wozniacki)."
Nicole Melichar: "Do you want me to go find you one?"

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Is it just me or does the media coverage of the tournament really suck?

I don't mean the actual tv broadcast and streams, those are great thanks to the BBC. But everything around it, there are no player interviews on-court, there seem to be no press conferences either (?), haven't seen a single video or transcript of a press conference... there are very little articles about the matches and the surroundings, kind of odd.

The matches have been great so far but you don't really get to follow anything else that's going on, a shame for what's supposedly the biggest tournament of the year.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Good comeback by Kerber in the first set tiebreak. She was down 5-1 and ended up winning it 7-5. I wonder if Venus ever lost a tiebreak with a 5-1 lead?

It is worthwhile watching Lisicki just for the facial expressions.

Yikes, after getting a break to go up 5-3 Sabine is broken at love. 5-4 Maria serving.

I'm afraid that serving game was her one chance to win the 1st and she blew it.

Well, at the very least she will get a chance in a tiebreak.

Sabine had two set points but Maria saved them and we are going to a tiebreak.

wow...unreal match... Sharapova slamming her racket nonstop, both with service winners on their 2nd serve in the tiebreak...amazing.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Agreed. This has been a great match. Both of them had some great serves when they needed them. I don't think they can keep up this level but hopefully it goes to a third set.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Ouch. Sabine loses the second set on a double fault. On to a decisive third set.
