Re: Womens Tennis in General

Eugenie 'Genie' Bouchard is really good (and has been very good for a couple of years). Well deserved. This is her last year as a junior, and I'm sure she'll be the top ranked Canadian within a year or two. She's already WTA #300 or so.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

It seems a bit odd to still be playing juniors at 18 years old.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

It would seem odd a few years ago but not so much anymore, I think. The average age in the WTA top 100 has increased significantly since Caroline played. It's much harder to get into the pro circuit now than it was 5 or 6 years ago. Still, Bouchard has already won a few pro tournaments, and she seems to play juniors only for the slams. The Runner up at Wimbledon (Svitolina) is also born 1994.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

I picked Nole, with Rafa & Roger having a chance.
Womens side was fairly clear. Maria, Petra or Serena.
Vika impressed me. She looks like the 1st half of the year was for real. She'll be tough this hardcourt summer/fall

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!

I'm a bit perplexed by that. The Wta has had age restrictions going back to 1995 (I think) and I don't think the game has gotten particularly more physical since Caro transitioned onto the senior level. So why would it be harder to get into the pro circuit?

Re: Womens Tennis in General

On the topic of slumps, some ITF girl is wiping the clay court down in Palermo with Barbora ... 1st set, but still ...

PS Then again, I suppose some 100 places ahead in the ranking didn't help JJ

I suppose credit is due for Barbora after all. 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 .. saved a couple of MP on the way ... but SERIOUSLY, the opponent, Cohen, I think it's only her 2nd WTA MD match ...

Re: Womens Tennis in General

I never thought I would see a tennis player, who could make Laura Robson look an elegant mover ... but then I saw Coco Vandeweghe I am sure, she's a nice girl and all, but I am also quite sure, she could be sponsored by McDonalds ...

Goerges is top 10 vs Caro.

It's a bit strange that the summer hard court season has already started in North America.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

A part of me rather dislikes these fast courts due to big servers.

I also think they may bring a lot higher than usual level from typically mediocre players.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

I like Barbora ... show them that 1.1 odds for Errani is totally wrong

*sighs* a very quick 6-1 1st set to Errani ...

At 3-3 30-40 2nd set, Barbora serving, someone in the crowd cramped

Got me hopes up, but Errani breaks again to go 4-3 up in 2nd

whatever 6-1, 6-3 to Errani

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Not having anything better to do in my life, I'm sitting here watching Serena Williams and Coco Vandeweghe ... surprisingly big girl Coco has keep up with Williams .. 3 all 1st set.

The crowd cheering mainly for Vandeweghe (local?) and the court is strange. Anyone knows what that material is? From just watching, balls almost appear to pick up speed, when bouncing

Vandeweghe had SP at 5-4 AD and serving .. 5 all .. had a 117 mph ace in that game. The big girl can really whack the ball.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Serena breaks for 7-5 1st set at Ad Serena from 15-40 down. Serena was down 0-30 on her serve at 3-5. Vandeweghe had a set point on her serve at 5-4 after being down 15-40. The match is 53 minutes long.

Yah, Vandeweghe is from California.

Re: Womens Tennis in General

Serena holds for 6-3 2nd set at 40-15. The match was 1 hour 28 minutes long.

Serena started the match pretty poorly but eventually played at a good level.

It would have been bad for a lucky loser to win a title plus the hype from the American media if Vandeweghe had won would be rather annoying.

Serena 21 winners, 19 unforced errors
Vandeweghe 20 winners, 25 unforced errors
