Self moderation is a wise choice, even if occasionally punctuated by the sweetness of the grape, or a spiritual intoxication of the soul.

It is, and it's not limited to TV coverage of sports. TV, movies..heck, even video games get constantly dumbed down to appeal to the mass market as much as possible. And since the majority of people is unwilling to think these days, the problem is going to get worse indeed.

Him and James Hunt were brilliant.

Similarly him and John Watson for the BTCC in the 90s. When Murray Walker left, this guy Charlie Cox took over and I think they were even better as a pair.

Not that anyone here's that interested really I doubt.

I think most of this is highly charged banter, really.

Apart from the calling you an idiot thing, which I don't really condone.

Have posted on several occasions that GroupThink is the order of the day now in public education;I'd be pleasantly shocked to find ANY public schools--heck,even private schools are lacking--that taught Critical Thinking skills

Yeah - I shouldn't really have called you an idiot but focused on that sentence of what the tate of the WTA is from those commentators which I do think is a bit of an idiotic thing to say. Rather like listening to Annabel Croft for what the state of F1 is. But no your right. I went too far calling you that. However, the comment reminded me of this bleating and whining we get in GM about the state of the WTA and needing to be be saved.

But if you weren't serious about it ......

My main objective was to take a slap at the walking dildos in that press booth who were likely just parroting, like unimaginative stooges, what they heard about Caro and the WTA from someone else.Personally,I don't single out Formula One---I HATE CARS,in general....I nearly died in an auto accident and suffered seriously from the aftereffects for around 6 months...some of them have never gone away.Further,I find many car fanatics to be some of the biggest losers who walk this planet. They are often maladjusted,socially-deficient geeks who spend half their days dealing with or talking about MACHINES because they lack the necessary skills to interact with PEOPLE.

Before you react with rage to that last part,I'm WELL aware that the last comment was a stereotype...that there are plenty of decent,well-rounded folks who both follow and participate in the auto-racing scene.Still,my first-hand,near-death experiences leave me less tolerant of those dorks who dwell at the bottom of the barrel....I hope you can appreciate my sentiments better now
OK it was a bit over the top. But your comment was a bit on the lines of those wives who say to their fanatical sports following husbands "It's only a game dear. Those cars just go round and round in circles." Didn't intend to rage. But it's just a bit much to take sometimes.

Brilliant stand up... Walkers gaffs and Hunt's corrections with the whole crew and audience in stitches...

James Hunt was the best ever. After he died - he left a hole. No-one could do it like he did.

He actually called some drivers complete idiots who shouldn't be driving in F1. The ones who were always crashing or were holding up the leaders trying to lap them like Andrea de Cesaris. I must admit though that if Andrea de Cesaris had won a world championship - it woudn't have been unlike the way Hunt the shunt did it after pretty well bankrupting Hesketh with his driving. He just so out the blue won that world championship.

Sorry,I missed the advisory--is Ronald going to perform a speed-metal concert for us??If so,then I'll get the snooty-sounding British golf commentator to narrate in hushed tones(FAR from the stage so that TV viewers can hear) :

'Ronald's next song details the various herbs and synthetic narcotic substances that he's consumed recently.Let's listen in,shall we,as we learn some of the side effects that the mind-altering drugs had on Ronald's already-primitive mental acuity...'
