I'm sure that it is really not that complicated but I don't think that I will ever have a good understanding of how the rankings work. Math makes my head hurt.

I feel the same way about the ATP....I can watch it for very brief stretches...and then I've reached my limit. There are certain sports--volleyball,gymnastics and figure skating are others--where the beauty and grace of the female participants is virtually impossible to replace.Caro has never left me bored as she allegedly does with the majority of tennis fans...but I tried to watch Nalbandian-Verdasco on my TV a little while back b/c my friend is a huge Nalby fan.....and I JUST COULDN'T DO IT

Is that from a Sharapova press conference

So do they play the Doha tournament next week at the same location that the YEC was held?

Yes. Both events were/will be held at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex.

Guess Hantuchova did have some jetlag issues losing 1 & 3. That's the problem when 'low' ranked players win tournaments; they usually don't have a 1R bye the following week.
Chakvetadze should be manageable for Caro. They've never met on anything other than HC with Caro winning all their 3 matches, each one going to 3 sets, though. Their first match is a very nice memory; New Haven final 2008, Caro's first Premier title. Last match was Copenhagen half a year ago.

Madison Brengle: "I'd rather chew on a pinecone than play this match (against Wozniacki)."

Hmm, Hantuchova lost fairly convincingly (6-1 6-3) so I'm guessing she was a bit wiped out by the flight from Pattaya (and that answers C.W. Fields' question about how she would handle the jetlag, now we will have to see how Petra does).

Caroline is 3-0 against Chakvetadze but strangely all three of their matches went three sets, including the semis at Copenhagen last year. Hopefully Caroline can break that trend and dispatch her in two quick sets, if she's going to win in Dubai she will be playing five matches in five days and starting that run with a three setter is probably not good for her chances of winning the title.

I didn't see Chakvetadze's match today but going by comments from people who did she's apparently somewhat sick and wasn't even sure she'd play today. Let's hope she's feeling better tomorrow and gives Caro some good practice.

Edit: Kvitova also lost, 7-6, 7-6 to Morita! I wouldn't have minded Caro playing PK (on hc!), but all things being equal this does open up the draw for our girl.

Must be Jet-Lag, Absolutely no other physically possible explanation at all.

Ugh. The organizers gave Chakvetadze more time to recover and also avoid the heat if that was a problem.

I don't want a good practice for Caro. I want a win for Caro. I'd much prefer it to be comfortable and relatively stress free not some tough 3 setter like all their other matches.

So did Caro call on a coach during her Fed Cup singles matches?

I didn't see any of Denmark's Fed Cup matches though don't Fed Cup coaches normally invite their own opinion wanted or not: a little like this forum some of the time.
