Caroline Wozniacki

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Beijing is where you became world No.1. Does that make it a particularly special place to come back to?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: It definitely does. Getting to the No.1 ranking in the world, beating the No.1 player, was definitely a dream come true. It brings back great memories to be here.
A lot of things have changed in the tournament since then, like they built a new court and a lot of other things. But at the end of the day, you know, I remember this day when I became No.1 very clearly.

Q. How are you feeling entering this year's tournament?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: I'm feeling all right. I got really sick last week. I'm feeling pretty good now. Hopefully I can get a good start to this tournament.

Q. How do you sum up your season overall?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: I don't think it's been the best season. But, you know, I just keep fighting and keep trying to do my best. There's a few tournaments left this year, that's all I'm focused on.

Q. Anything you do differently next year?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: You know, I'll just try and stay healthy. That's really it. It's part of sports to be injured sometimes. That's going to hold you back. In the end of the day all I can do is work hard and do my best.

Q. As the season comes to an end, do you start thinking about holidays?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: For sure. All of us are. We can't wait to just get a few weeks off and recharge the batteries.

Q. Any special plans for you? The New York Marathon again?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: No, because the season finishes later this year, so that's not an opportunity.
But, you know, I'm definitely going to enjoy it with my friends, just kind of take a timeout.

Q. Serena is a close friend of yours. Were you disappointed with her having to withdraw this week?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Well, I was hoping to be able to catch up with her, for sure, in this Asian swing.
But in the end of the day I respect her decision. She has to do what's best for her. In the end of the day she's had an amazing season. She can do whatever she wants.

Q. You meet a qualifier in the first round here. Any thoughts on that?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Not really, because you don't really know who you're playing. So I'm just going to go out there and do what I can.

Q. Can I have your comments of recent WTA players over 30 but still play very good, and young players cannot go to the top. Why do you think this phenomenon? You made a lot of achievements, but what makes it different in these years?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: I don't know. I think obviously the more experienced players have been playing well. When you have a lot of experience, you know your game, you know your body. A lot of those women have been playing really well. I think it's really tough as a young one. It was also when I was young.
But I was one of the lucky ones that was able to win a lot when I was young. Hopefully I can keep doing that for a few more years.

Q. You said you don't have plans to take part in the New York Marathon. Do you have a plan to do some jogging while you're in Beijing?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: I always do some jogging. So I will also be running here on the treadmill, but not outside.

Q. Olympic Park is nice.

Caroline Wozniacki

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Happy with that start of the tournament for yourself?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Yeah, it was nice to get through and kind of get that first match under my belt.
It was a little closer in the end than it should have been. But at the end of the day a win is a win, through to the next one.

Q. Last year you were struggling with your movement. Looks like you were moving like you used to be moving again. You must be happy with that?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: After just being sick last week, I took some time off and just laid in bed and made sure to kind of get that out of my body before I did anything.
You know, I hit for an hour yesterday, an hour and a half yesterday, which was nice. I got kind of the rhythm. I hit for about 45 minutes the day before. I still felt a little tired so I left it at that. Yesterday I felt better. And I'm like, Today I'm going to be fine, which I was. It was nice to feel fresh out there.

Q. There's been a lot of talk about how players manage their schedules. There's been pull‑outs, retirements. How would you compare how you manage your schedule nowadays to compared to when you first came on tour and what goes into deciding which you play and which you don't?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: I think the size of the tournament is important. Obviously you want to play the big tournaments. But I think a lot of players, or I, choose to play the tournaments that I like. I stay away from the tournaments that I haven't had a good experience at in the past.
I also go by how I feel. If I play well and I feel good, I feel I can play, I play tournaments. If I feel I'm tired, kind of I can't like get motivated, I take a little break and come back and train hard at home.
It's hard to find a balance in tennis especially because our season is so long, to find a balance between having a normal life at home and being on tour. It's such a fine balance.
I think it's just all about the older I get I'm going to start cutting down my schedule more and more. If I want to keep playing, you have to be fresh in the head.

Q. In an instance when Jovanovski is winning four games in a row like she did in the end of the match, what is your strategy in a time like that when an opponent is zoning, what do you do?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Well, you try and not think about her just having won four games in a row and you just try and say, You're still up, you're up 5‑4, it's not a big deal. But in the end of the day it is a big deal because you let someone back into the match where it should have been done.
But it's tennis. Sometimes it goes that way.
I just kind of thought I need to put a little bit more depth on the ball. I can't let her just tee off and hit winners everywhere.

Q. Post US Open, at least on paper, it's a pretty heavy tournament schedule. Why have you chosen to do that and how much of it is the motivation after maybe not as great results over the summer that you may have wanted or chasing Singapore, whatever it is?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: To be honest with you, I was thinking about just playing here and playing Linz. If I didn't make it to Singapore, just call it a year.
In the end of the day, I got injured in Eastbourne with my back. I somehow managed play through Wimbledon. I don't know how I did that. But I had a great team around me of doctors that kept me fit for the tournament. I had to take about two and a half, almost three weeks off after that.
Then in my first practice back before the US Open swing, I hurt my leg. So then I came into the US Open Series not really being able to play 100%.
Then playing the US Open I felt fit, I felt good, but unfortunately lost in a tough match in the second round. To me, I was like, You know what, I really haven't had a summer. I've been injured. I haven't been able to play the way I want to. I just want to kind of start from afresh and finish off the year as well as I can. That's really it. Just erase the first part of the year and kind of just try and finish off well.

Re: Articles and Interviews

"It was a slow start, but it got better." Piotr Wozniacki after the Wang match to @johasger Piotr: Caroline har problemer med banen ? Ekstra Bladet

On her offensive game:

"We're working on it, but I understand from Caroline that the new Centre Court surface makes the ball bounce strangely. She needs to get used to it."

On her Wuhan loss to Schmiedlova:

"When I went on to the court to coach her, she told me that she was sick, that she had a headache and felt bad. She must have had some sort of bacteria. She threw up after the match. She could have won that match easily if she'd been healthy. "
Why did the surface change? What's the big difference? Is it faster or slower? Does the ball bounce higher?

Caroline Slayniacki will show up in 2016

Kinky leopard: Wozniacki wins new award

Caroline Wozniacki demonstrates that the skills extend beyond the tennis court. For during this year's China Open, she has won an award for her ability to dress nicely.

It happened when she was off the court in the 'Players Party' was voted the best dressed female tennis player during the tournament. And if you like naughty leopard, the Dane has certainly earned her new glory. Wozniacki had at the party wedged herself into a tight-fitting dress with a frisky leopard pattern. Probably a thing that is a little too tight to run around in. Otherwise, symbolizes the very good Dane running qualities on the court.

Under the so-called 'Players Party' she enjoyed herself among others, with Novak Djokovic and his brother Marko. Here she got both selfies and 'team photo' with the Djokovic clan on the red carpet.

67 weeks number one...6 years top 10.... 4 New Haven Slams..
