She lost 1 and 4
. I watched it (from the second set) live in Albany, on the North Shore of Auckland. It was painful. Alize looked so lovely, but unfortunately her tennis was not good. I will try to give more details in a more in depth report later, but the general gist is this: I think most people beat Claire by exploiting her slightly more erratic 1hbh and her lack of athleticism (she isn't exactly in the best shape, not terrible, but compared to Alize who has a fantastic figure, Claire is definitely on the heavy side). Alize was unable to exploit either the bh or Claire's movement because she was mostly on defence. Claire was able to hit a lot of fhs, running around the bh.
I think Alize wasn't timing the ball very well. Her fh was mistimed a lot, and tended to go long. The match was moved indoors (and away from ASB which is in central Auckland) due to the weather and these conditions (similar to the French interclubs, from what I have seen) seemed to suit Claire more. Still, I would have expected Alize to win. However, she struggled not only to hold but also to threaten on Claire's service games. Claire's lefty serve was giving Alize issues, but I don't think it's that amazing, just a good serve.
Anyway... I felt sad for Alize. I guess when you slump you can lose to all sorts of people. She was nearly in tears at one point, when her coach (that older guy) came on to try to comfort her.
This is doubly annoying for me. Firstly, I'm pissed off that they only gave one QWC to a NZer and gave the others to Feuerstein, Rampre, and Puig. Secondly, Alize lost
By the way, I videoed a lot of the second set. If people want to see it then ask me and I'll see if I can upload it somewhere. I've never uploaded a video before but I can try.
