Alize's 2017 season cheering thread

Alize's had a pretty solid start to her 2017 season.

In Brisbane she survived a very tough one against Elena Vesnina in round one, coming back from 36 03 down (and then 1-4 down in the second set) to win 36 64 76(5).

Then she beat Christina McHale in surprisingly one-sided style, 1 and 2, after Christina had beaten Sara Errani.

And then she beat Cibulkova in 2 sets in the QF! Great start to the season! She needs to win one more match (vs Muguruza or Kuznetsova) to secure an AO seeding.

Amelie

Dodin - Andrianjafitrimo - Kuznetsova - Kvitova - Rezai - Razzano - Mladenovic - Osaka - Cornet - Garcia - Paquet

Alize wins 4-1 retired against Muguruza and secures a seeding for AO. Ostapenko who was competing for the seeding lost 64 46 1-4 retired anyway against Lauren Davis in Auckland.

Alize into the final of Brisbane. Kind of unexpected, but a great result for her.

Re: Alize's 2017 season cheering thread

She's been struggling after reaching the Brisbane final. She lost that final 0 and 3 against Karolina Pliskova.

Then in the Australian Open she beat Myrtille Georges in three sets 6-3 4-6 6-1 and then lost the 2nd round vs Maria Sakkari 5-7 6-4 1-6.

Last night she lost against Vesnina 2-6 6-3 6-3, admittedly Vesnina seems to be having one of her good weeks, she beat Makarova 3 and 1 in the first round, and I guess this surface possibly suits Elena more than Alize.

Continuing to struggle. She just lost in three sets (61 in the third) against Bouchard in Madrid R1. That was Bouchard's first win in 3 and a half months, breaking a 6 match losing streak.

I reckon she'll step it up at Roland Garros though, at least I hope so.

Re: Alize's 2017 season cheering thread

Alize is having a very good Roland Garros so far. Into the fourth round where in an hour or two she will play fellow Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia for a spot in the quarters.

Alize's wins so far: def Timea Babos 62 67(5) 62
def Barbora Strycova 64 61
def Aga Radwanska 62 61

She was playing doubles with Elise Mertens but they lost 1 and 2 against one of the strongest teams, Lucie Safarova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

Re: Alize's 2017 season cheering thread

Caroline was just too good, until she started to choke at the end. Alize had a chance when she broke back when Caro tried to serve out the match, courtesy of some nervous errors and two doublefaults, but when Alize served at 4-5, she served two doublefaults herself and really handed the match to Caro on a silver platter.

Alize was strapped up (thigh, abs) which obviously didn't help, although she didn't seem very obviously hampered. Caro was smacking winners off her dropshots, hitting big, and aside from the anticipated difficulty in closing, was the better player.

Re: Alize's 2017 season cheering thread

I don't think Alize's season has been all that good so far, Roland Garros R4 aside (by her standards, she has been losing quite a bit), but she just managed to beat Kerber (who is still struggling to recover from her mammoth effort last season), 4 and 4, in the first round of Beijing. After watching it I can say that Alize's fighting spirit is certainly alive and well, even if her form is only just starting to turn around.

Got beaten easily 2 and 1 by Caro Garcia in the the next round though... Well, Caro has been in much better form than her recently so it's not too much of a surprise.

Re: Alize's 2017 season cheering thread

Alize is in the quarters of Moscow.

Beat Makarova in straight sets, then won the first set off Rybarikova and she retired.

Next is either Vesnina or Vikhlantseva.
