(Q) next to Kuznetsova is Halep, a decent claycourter so before we all will send Aga to Brussels, let's sit and watch what Kuznetsova is gonna do with the Romanian.

Well, finally Aga won't have to face Kuznetsova in R2 but Halep (who beat Svetlana 6-1 6-1 ).
Good luck

Re: Katowice Exho, Fed Cup and CLAY SEASON

Not a bad draw for Aga, Halep must be pretty confident after her quality wins but it'll be her 4th match in 4 days so she might be tired and Aga is probably in her head by now with their H2H. Whoever she gets in R3 should be easily beatable as well, though Vesnina could be tough.

Re: Katowice Exho, Fed Cup and CLAY SEASON

She didn't play very well, that's obvious. From time to time she was showing some better game, but Halep played a great match, so clean and smart, and deserved the victory

Aga has withdrawn from Brussels, so next stop will be in Paris.

Re: Katowice Exho, Fed Cup and CLAY SEASON

Honestly I have no idea which is more surprising: Ula beating Ana on clay, Aga playing two/three awful matches in a row or the fact she just withdrew from Brussels.
Crazy day

Re: Katowice Exho, Fed Cup and CLAY SEASON

As for me, I'm more and more convinced that Aga has willingly reduced her clay schedule to the minimum: she will have played only 3 events on this surface this year (Madrid, Rome and the French Open) while she doesn't seem to be injured.

Given her obvious lack of motivation on clay nowadays, that wouldn't surprise me if she has simply no ambition in this part of the calendar and decided not to overstrain there. Maybe it's just to rest and focus on the second half of the year (including the grass season) when she is usually way more efficient. After all, she got used to finish the season completely tired and partly injured, maybe she decided it was time to think about saving energy...

Shoulder precaution?

No matter how well her opponent played, under no circumstances should she only be winning two points on serve for an entire set.

She's lost on clay this year.
Nothing depends on her on this surface

Oh come on, she'll still probably be fine in RG(unless she gets an unlucky draw). She hates courts in Rome and Madrid was her first match on clay in a year.
It's really mentally demanding for her to play on such slow courts, since she either needs to run her ass of or go for everything which in her case leads to a bunch of unforced errors that cause frustration. Since RG is a slam after all, she will probably be more determined to win and not let ones like Halep burn her down so easily. I'm not saying that she didn't want to win yesterday, but she could have turned into a bit more pushing mode instead of trying to outhit her on slowest court ever. Since Rome isn't the most important tournament ever, she wouldn't put injury/exhaustion on risk, but in RG she probably would have.

Re: Katowice Exho, Fed Cup and CLAY SEASON

Unless Aga strengthens her body in the areas that will enable her to play a more powerful and less error-prone game it is unlikely that she will continue to achieve consistent success at the very highest level, not least of all on clay.

It looks obvious to me that she is in the process of changing her overall game to one that is more proactive rather than reactive. In the past, Aga hitting around 5 - 7, or 10 at the very most, winners and around 5 unforced errors reqularly won her matches against top 20 players when they hit 35 unforced errors and 25 winners. However, if this is the way you play, you are relying on them to lose the match. To get to no.1 you have to win tennis matches off your own racquet. Aga has said her aim in tennis is the number one ranking. Her team know changes are required to get her there; I hope they are addressing her physical weaknesses too. Anyway, that's what I think after watching every one of her matches available on pay and tennis tv over the last 3 years.

Have a look at her against Petkovic at Beijing 2011 and you'll see what I'm referring to. She went out and won that match.

http://top10tennisnetwork.blogspot.c.../label/Beijing

And don't be too disappointed if her ranking takes a dive during this transition. She'll be the better for it.
