Agnieszka Radwańska :: Match Reports & Compilation Video Thread

Hi everyone.

Over on the ~~Photos and Videos ~~ thread, I posted an idea that a compilation video of Aga should be made. Malva agreed and added that match reports should also be written. As a result, this thread was created.

The goal is for everyone to work together on this project, with the final "product" being the first (of many!) compilation video of Agnieszka points. Here's how you can help:

1.) Download matches from the Agnieszka Radwańska :: Matches on video thread.

2.) Watch said matches while taking little notes pertaining to amazing points by Aga or notable situations (for example... second serve ace on set point).

3.) Post your notes in this thread. For general match reports, a paragraph or two should be fine. For individual points, list the point in the match at which it happens. Try to avoid posting the time at which it occurs (as shown in your video player) as people may have different versions of the match on their computer.

Once we have an ample amount of points, the compilation video will be created. I am willing to make the video, but although I've worked in iMovie before, I haven't specifically made a tennis compilation video. If anyone believes they could do a better job or wants to help, feel free to ask!

Finally, once the video is created, it should have a high quality link as well as a YouTube link.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Agnieszka Radwańska :: Match Reports & Compilation Video Thread

Ok, I won't make this kind of report the way Swimntennis did, but I can report about some of them that I've watched

Aga vs Harkload IW R16:
So finally I've watched that one. I remmember looking at the scoreboard that day, along with more Aga fans, we were shocked to see the way Aga struggled and almost lost to a lower ranked player, even though Ashley was in great shape.
That match was very very good! From both players, they gave it all.
They both played really well at the net from what I saw, they attacked great, defended gread, really nice all around game.
If it matters, I can say that Harkload served DF's at SP and MP to Aga, but apart from that, Aga's comeback from 2:4 to 6:4 in the 3rd, wasn't at all due to a choke, Aga played very very well in thos games, got many difficult balls back in to play, sent them really well when her opponent was at the net for example.
Great match, I enjoyed it

Sttutgart 2007, vs Kuznetsova.
I still have to watch this match again, but it was a super match! (The one that made me really became a fan), great fighting spirit from Aga, great play from both.
I remmember in the begging of the 2nd set Aga faced triple break points (0-40) but saved them all with great moves! especially with wrong footing Kuzzy with the inside out FH.

Aga vs Razzano USO 2007, 2nd round
As far as I remmeber, Razzano had some stupid UE's, but overall great match from Aga. I remmember especially one point (I think in the 2nd set) that Razzano hit great approach shot to Aga's BH, but somehow Aga managed to pass her down the line. The shocked look on Razzano's face after that, said it all.

Berlin 2008, R16, vs Serena
Definitelly not a match that as a Aga fan I'd like to watch again. Serena just outplayed her, blew her off the court..She was just too good that day, nothing Aga could do

*Now I'll report about few matches that aren't in the video's thread.

Doha 2008, vs Cibulkova
Damn what a match that was! It has began a bit slow, some errors and nice points from both, at the end, Aga came back in the 3rd from a break down to win 6:4 in the 3rd, with great points.
The things I remmember the mot from that match are 2 things:
1. That point at 2:3 in the 3rd, deuce, Aga hit a really good touch, Cibulkova reched and hit it back, Aga sent a lob, Cibulkova somehow hit some drive volley with her BH, but then, leaning backwoards, Aga hit another drop shot! Which was just glorius, everyone wer shocked, Cibulkova, the commentors, me..
2. Aga used too much drop shots in that match, won only 50% of the times using them, if not less.
As we know, Cibulkova, is like a wall, doesn't miss, reacing every ball, and that week, in Doha she played extremly well.
Aga hit too many dropshots, especially to her FH side ad got punished time after time. That was a big tactic mistake from her.
Plus, I have to mention Aga used her FH great at times, and when she was defensive she played ver well, hititing many balls back, making Cibulkova hitting more than one smash..

*Vs Cornet, RG 2008, 3rd round.
Aga started slow.. That was awful, and fell to 1:4, with 2 breaks behind. Alize was hitting many winners with her BH DTL and the french crowd behind her. But then, from no where, Aga steped it up, remmmeber the things she could do, and started playing very very well, she took 5 games in a row with great tennis, long rallies, really good match

RG 2008, 4th round, Vs Jankovic
One of the weirdest matches of her I think.
Aga lost the 1st set 6:3, the match started pretty evenly if I recall right, but then, from the end of the first set, until 1:5 in the 2nd, she played just awful. Missing many many balls, during rallies and also the simple ones, not kind of balls you'd see her missing any other time. She was really off and it looked like she just wanted to go off the court. But then, also thanks to Jankovic, but also with great fighting spirit, which is not easy to find at 3:6 1:5 down she played really good and steady tennis, to have a big comeback to 6 all and force a TB. But at the TB, she was all the sudden pretty off again, and some stupid UE's she had, gave Jankovic the match (Including a long BH DTL at MP)
But as for the mental side, it was good for Aga imo. Just keep fighting, no matter what, she could have taken that 2nd set if she'd stayed a bit more concentrated.

Wimbledon 2008, R16, Against Kuznetsova.
the 1st set was really good from both, Aga broke to 5:3 but was broken back to 5:4 with some good points from Kuzzy, but then, Aga broke again to win the set with a lovely BH DTL winner.
The second set was awful, just awful, Aga wasn't there, and Kuznetsova was hitting winners all over the place.
In the 3rd set, Aga fell down a break, 1-4, but the games were much more tighter, and Kuznetsova was playing really well, Aga lookd as if she was about to fade away again. But then, she put some pressure on Kuznetsova again, played really good points, kept the pressure, and got the breakback, from Kuzzy's UE (Pretty stupid one TBH). Aga stayed calm, did her job and mostly because of that she pulled the win.

Re: Agnieszka Radwańska :: Match Reports & Compilation Video Thread

Thanks justine schnyder. I'm going to download the Harkleroad match now. It didn't seem like a great match from the score (as you mentioned) but your review says otherwise. Already this thread has shown its purpose.

Here's some YouTube highlights from the Cibulkova match you mentioned. And that awesome drop shot combo.

Re: Agnieszka Radwańska :: Match Reports & Compilation Video Thread

Here's a great point in the Harkleroad match:

Second set, up 3-2, Harkleroad serving at 30/0 - Aga returns a high ball back and Harkleroad comes in to volley it. On the full stretch off of a seemingly volley winner, Aga gets a winner down the line.

Aga to the chair umpire: "I know she's from here, but come on!" About a horrible call that should've been an ace for her.

Another great point:

Third set, 4 all, Radwanska serving at 40/0 - Great defense from Aga against an attacking, at-net, Harkleroad. Harkleroad hits a good drop-volley, but Aga is there in no time and hits a great angled slice.

Wow, a point just like the one above occurs a little later on at 5-4, 30/15, but is even more impressive!

That point
And on your second commet, so that's what she said? But that was a terrible call indeed, but if I remmember right, atleast Harkload missed the BH return on the 2nd serve..

Re: Agnieszka Radwańska :: Match Reports & Compilation Video Thread

A few first impressions after watching the video of the Istanbul Final uploaded earlier today by swimntennis.

The recording starts at 0:2 15/30, there are numerous disruptions in the broadcast, so many, in fact, that we miss a lot of points, nearly all in the First Set (infuriating how many, if one watches for the first time). Thankfully the last 6 or so games are not disrupted, and these are the best games of the match anyway.

In the First Set Agnieszka commits tactical errors handing to Lena a number of winning opportunities that Lena takes. Agnieszka manages in the second half of the First Set to change her tactics, goes for a number of difficult winners, and many are in, plays to Lena's BH, changes rhythm. Dementieva is visibly stopped in her tracks.

In the Second Set, Agnieszka lifts her game considerably, there are some breathtaking exchanges with both players playing exceedingly well. Agnieszka regularly employs drop shots. Initially none of them terribly convincing but all of them end with Dementieva's forced errors at the net. With one of such drop shot winners she closes the First Set.

Dementieva's service game at 6:3 5:1 is simply spectacular. Both girls play superb, inspired tennis. Agnieszka has on two occasions, each at 40/40, fantastic dropshot winners giving her Championship points. The first one makes Dementieva scream in high voice: Сукааа! (Russian for 'Bitch!'). I can't recall Lena doing that! (Lena, shame on you!). Lena saves MP with a suberb winner. In another exchange, won eventually by Lena, Agnieszka hits three times (!) fantastic defensive lobs right on the baseline. Yet another exchange ends with Agnieszka's lob winner almost at the T.

The last game of the match is much quicker but Agnieszka again has a very good drop shot winner. All the dropshots in the end are perfectly executed as compared to the earlier ones. Every single drop shot recorded on the video earns Agnieszka a point, however. Lena also tries a few, but I think she loses points on all of them, once after very good volley from Agnieszka, another tine after a tiny out. In the second part of the match Agnieszka is certainly playing Top 10 tennis, perhaps better. One has to watch it to believe.

Both girls look very well in their attire on the court. Agnieszka is simply lovely.

Thanks for the report Malva. I've already watched that match, but I'm going to watch mainly the second set again and specifically pick out some of the best points.

There are a few very good points in the First as well. But as I said there are many broadcast disruptions, and several points where Agnieszka was committing tactical errors by setting Lena for winners. I would say that the fact she during the match was able to realign her tactic may be her single most impressive trait as a player.

I suppose, most girls would be heading in such situation for a sure defeat. Dementieva was playing very well up to this point, and I have every reason to believe it was Agnieszka who dismantled her, rather than Lena choking. As the penultimate game of the match shows, Lena was still capable of court magic.

Re: Agnieszka Radwańska :: Match Reports & Compilation Video Thread

Watching Wimbledon R4 (1/8) vs Kuznetsova

among the best match videos: good quality & complete, breaks cut out

1st Set -- simply terrific

Fantastic cat-like touch by Agnieszka in games 3 through 8. She does this better than in any match I saw before. Matched by great shot making by Sveta. In game 3 a 2nd serve Ace.

3:2* 40/40 Phenomenal lob winner

4:3* 40/40 Fantastic BH smash winner

0:1 0/40 fantastic CC FH winner, what a touch!

0:2 another nonchalant service game; broken to 30

0:3* 30/15 late (and bad) line call probably cost her a point

1:5 30/40 very good FH & FE of SK
1:5 40/40 drop shot BH & FE of SK
1:5 40/40 very beautiful rally won by SK
1:5 Ad SK very good point ended by a very unfortunate EF

3rd set

0:0* 0/15 beautiful point at the net

0:1 30/40 nice good point finished by a minimal EF (a near winner); AR frustrated tosses her racket

1:2 another poor game; lack of concentration? even a drop shot at 0/30 poor; broken to 15

1:3* 0/0 very good return & FE of SK

1:4 15/15 poor drop shot
game won with hepl from SK

2:4* 0/15 beautiful point won by SK

*** All scores from Radwanska's POV.

Second Set

- 0-0, 40-30: Interesting footwork from Aga.

- 1-0, 40-0: Perfect defense and anticipation from Aga leads to a Dementieva error.

- 2-0, 15-15: Great defense from Aga again (including returned a shot directly at her), but Dementieva ends the long rally with a forehand winner. Elena had to work incredibly hard for just one winner.

- 2-1, 30-0: Great defense from Aga leads to a Dementieva forehand error.

- 2-1, 40-0: Inside out forehand followed by a backhand half-volley winner by Aga.

- 3-1, 15-0: Amazing scrambling from Aga from the backcourt. Dementieva hits a drop volley, which Aga gets to and proceeds to hit a winner up the line. Great point.

- 3-1, 40-15: Dementieva comes to net; Aga passes with a cross-court forehand.

- 4-1, 0-0: Nice aggressive point from Aga culminating in a Aga-drop shot Dementieva-miss combo.

- 4-1, 30-15: Another drop shot leads to a Dementieva error.

- 4-1, 40-15: Great scrambling from Aga leads to a popped up volley from Dementieva which Aga punishes and ends in a Dementieva stab-volley error.

- 5-1, 30-40: Successive lobs from a defending Aga culminates in Dementieva coming to the net. Aga places a perfect lob on the T at the baseline & sideline for a winner.

- 5-1, 40-40: Another drop shot from Aga that Dementieva can't even get to.

- 5-1, 40-40: Aga drop shot leads to Dementieva error.

Re: Agnieszka Radwańska :: Match Reports & Compilation Video Thread

Roland Garros 2008 R3

Code:
Agnieszka Radwańska vs Alizé Cornet	6:4 6:4

1h 32'	22°C

AR not moving well in the first 20-25'; nearly all of her weaknesses bared out in this match, as well as her fantastic strengths that helped her to extricate herself from trouble on 3 different occasions in the match

AC abundantly showing her ability at great shot making, especially impresive BH DTL winners

a very tough opponent at peak of form, on her favorite surface, backed by home crowd just waiting to be provoked by Agnieszka. I wonder what would have happened if another player who shows her emotions was in Agnieszka's place; I believe the crowd might have become quite unruly
