My personal road to becoming a tennis fan and a fan of Agnieszka

I invite all of you, supporters of Agnieszka, to tell us your personal stories how you became a tennis fan, whom did you support in the past, whom do you support now, and tell us any reasons why.

I will be delighted to hear how you became a fan of Agnieszka, and what do you find in her to be most appealing to you.

In view of our experience with another thread, we need to agree to some basic rules of etiquette.

Rules of Etiquette

1. Absolutely no expletives in your postings. Posters disregarding this will be warned and their posts deleted.

2. If your post contains criticisms towards any players, then they must be versed in a polite language.

3. Personal attacks, even if you perceive them to be in defense, will not be tolerated.

Here is what I was able to salvage from another thread (I left only those fragments that were relevant for the current thread).

There are two main reasons why I like her. First, it's her game which I find to be extremely intelligent. You can see how she constructs the point in her head and that she's thinking few steps ahead in the process. I guess in a way she has to as she's not some big, strong gal who can overpower her opponent yet she manages to do just that in some way.

I loooove her dropshots. They are piece of art. She makes tennis look elegant..you cannot say that for many players. She is unique and a tough cookie. She plays the game as if it were a chess game.

The other thing I like about her is that she keeps a cool head and doesn't show any emotion. It just falls nicely into a whole "story about Aga".

I like her. I just do.

Ana is completely different type of player. We all know that but I enjoy her game just as much. I love her power and those feisty forhands of hers.

The bottom line, I appreciate them as they are. Don't want them to change cuz I see them as complete players and individuals no matter how different they are.

To me Ana and Aga combo makes perfect sense.

I personally love Aga's game, the talent, the veraity, the all around play, she can basiclly play from anywhere in the court, diffence, attack, has good volley.. Her game is very joyable to watch.

Plus I like her spirit n court, always looks calm, and never stops fighting, no matter whats the result and whose the opponent.

Love you Aga

from all Aga's things I love, the most important for me is the improvement she made since I saw her first time (Wimbledon 2005), this makes me sure she can be a champion in the future, maybe even near future

She became my #1 and main object of focus on WTA and it will never change. For next years my only actual faves were them... Ana & Justine. I got to know Aga during her breakthrough tournament in Warsaw 2006. Her match against Myskina, which I was watching in person remains the best tennis-match I've ever watched in person. But I have to admit I was cheering more for Aga, because she's Polish and even though I don't share the opinion that you're almost obliged to cheer for your fellow compatriot, I do support most of Poles. Aga always was my favourite player (even though I still see more potential in Ulka). Warsaw also was a place when I had the pleasure to talk to both Aga & Ana. To Aga just briefly, but she was extremely nice and tactful. Ana is adorable too, the nicest player I've met (without any bias believe it or not). People claiming she's a bitch, make me laugh out loud. She's just a fierce competitor who wants to win as much as it gets. The accusations of cheating make me laugh as well... People do not see she's the one to concede points in matches when there's a close call and she knows the call is incorrect, applauds opponent's good shots (as it was the case yesterday ), but people will see what they want to see. And be my guests guys.

The games of Ana & Aga couldn't be more different comparing to each other. And whilst I prefer the big babe style of tennis, watching Aga is extremely refreshing and you appreciate it even more when you notice how few of them are able to play more with brain than power. Aga's body isn't as suited to this game as other's girls, but I feel she can do it the way Justine did. They both have/had to overcome some adversities, but I'm optimistic about Aga's future. What is great to see, is that each time I watch Aga I see new improvements. She's getting stronger, she's getting fitter and the future is bright for her.

I have to say Aga is nowhere near close to Ana's status to me. I don't think I will ever have the same passion for Aga as I have for Ana. Following Ana's career from being outside of top100 to the top of the rankings makes me feel almost like a proud father. Justine was the 2nd person I was able to call myself a fan of, but it was more in appreciative way. I didn't have the same passion either, but she's been always my hero and it will stay this way. The day she retired will remain the darkest day of tennis since I started to follow it more than 5 years ago. Apart from Ana & Justine, I like/d many player, but wasn't fave of them. Like I said I cheered Aga from the beginning more because she's my compatriot. With Justine's departure I feel like Aga is taking her place.

And Dexter again.

In fact, tennis wasn't my favourite sport's discipline by then. I only followed Justine's result, which included checking the scores once, maybe twice per week and watching matches when it was possible (not that often). I remember Zurich 2004 like it was yesterday, I wasn't planning to watch tennis that day. I turned TV randomly and there was Ana playing Tatiana, the match which was absolutely remarkable with Ana winning 76 in the 3rd after overcoming 1-5 deficit and saving a MP. It was just a moment when you know, that what happened was something special. I couldn't help, but getting more and more devoted to following her career.

It was a great experience to watch her live when she attended J&S Cup in 2006. I've been to all her matches (singles & doubles) and it was great to be recognized by her after each of her games. She really does appreciate support of her fans and I know it not only from my personal experience.

I'm a passionate person, so when I feel affection to something I'm getting fully involved. There's no problem in balancing my passions and studying (where I'm more than fine at).

As for the last question it is indeed personal, so let's just say I've got personal connections in the city where current Grand Slam is underway. But by the way, don't be deceived by the country-flags over here... in many cases they have next to nothing to do with poster's descent.

She has the potential in my opinion to be number one player despite of not having the “big hit”; I guess she is one of the players that can prove superiority of the brain over muscles. For the rest of the players, I like them all; I love tennis. I have only slight problem with players that are too arrogant, but this doesn’t stop me from enjoying great tennis if they can produce it.

.....oh yeah and to answer the question, ana and aga both do rock for me

Apart of that, she always stays cool on the court, has never outbursts of unneccessary emotions and is a very nice girl off court

As far as JJ is concerned, I just love her I love her fighting spirit because she never ever gives up; she doesnt need to scream Ajde or Come on all the time, she doesnt need to act like a princess on the court because she has it all in her heart and she doesnt feel the need to demostrate it to others. On the top of that, she is not a stupid ball basher either, but she knows how to produce a winner if neccessary And hell I'd forget.. I love her smile, she is always smiling no matter if shes winning or losing... just an optimistic fighter.
bc JJ is a really classy and gentle person, always warm for everybody off court, theres no problem to talk to her or just joke with her for example about her silly colour of nails

Feel free to add new details, new comments, new insights.

Re: My personal road to becoming a tennis fan and a fan of Agnieszka

Well, in my quoted post there's not info about this whole thread's subject, so here it is:

I started playing tennis few years ago, at the beggining it was just for fun, one hour 2 times per week, I started becuase a friend mine asked me to join her.
But as the time went by, I fell in love with that sport, started playing more, and ofcourse, started to follow the pro tennis.
The player who made me love it, was, just like in Dexter's case, Henin. She played the first match I saw, and I fell in love with her and her game.
After a while I started to "discover" many of other players, but ofcourse just for some of them, I really cheer.
So the 2nd player I started to cheer for was Patty, I know she's kind of controvertional player with her attuitude, consistensy, husband..But I don't know, I really like her game and she also seems like a down to earth person, no glamour, and it made it easy for me to feel for her.
After that, in 2006, I started to really like Jelena as well, I liked her lovely BH, atletisism, and the way she shared her emotions with the crowd oncourt.
The next player I "discovered" was Aga ofcourse I knew about her before I started to like her, but I didn't see her play, just knew who she was. The 1st match of her that I remmember was against Kuznetsova in Stuttgart, she lost in 3 tough sets, but yet, I was really really impressed with her, it was a great match. Since that match, I became a fan. I was really impressed with her game, the way she fought through that match, and also had mini comeback at the end (from 0-5 to 3:6.. But Kuzzy played a great match).
And the things I like about her are: The on court personality, so clam, no matter the result, the opponent, if I came in the middle of a match of her, I could never guess the result..Her off court personality also seems nice, her interviews can be really funny sometimes and she's honest in them. And the most improtant: I like her game so much! So smart, talented, unexpected, has a great verity of shots..

So, this is it.. Sorry if you got bored
