Sorry for the late post and match report but things have been CRAAAAAZY!!!
Nicolas (Kaelin) and I had a perfect birdseye view from Louis Armstrong Stadium from start to finish and we were both extremely disappointed in how lopsided this match was. We were also disappointed in the crowd support. They slightly favored Iva but I thought it would be much more one-sided - stupid crowd!
Also, I should mention that Nicolas and I were the only ones cheering Daniela's errors - what few there were.
At the start of the match Daniela came out firing and I must say she was VERY impressive. Not only does she hit with incredible power on both groundstrokes and serve, but she is incredibly consistent and quick! I was really impressed with her speed - I think she's faster than people give her credit for. On the occasions Iva had her running, Daniela would retrieve beautifully, getting enough depth and returning enough balls to make Iva eventually miss. She also changed direction on her backhand amazingly well. She really had Iva on the go for much of the match.
As for Iva, her serve was off but she had even more trouble returning Daniela's serve. Way too many easy service games for Dani while Iva had to fight to hold in practically every service game of hers. Dani put alot of pressure on the return and kept Iva on the defensive forcing Iva to consistently put in a high service percentage which led to Iva's demise.
Nicolas and did I let out a huge cheer when Iva left the court. She looked great in the white outfit and natural blonde locks.
She even waved to the crowd so she didn't look too broken up about it although she may have saved her tantrum for the locker room.
Hopefully Iva will take something from this match and have a great indoor season. I question whether Iva has the fortitude to get back to top 10 status but I do think she'd break top 20 and even top 15 with a little more dedication.
And fellow Iva fans, don't get too broken up over this loss. Any way you slice it though, she's still THE DIVA!
Love you Iva Dear!!!
