players who play their last season

next year will be (most probably) the last year for these players:

lindsay davenport
magdalena maleeva
conchita martinez
silvia farina - elia
mary pierce (i imagine that)
amanda coetzer

this are some great names from the ninteys and also with some highlights in the last years.

what do you expect from each one. consider their rank, olympia, gs and surfaces (maggie - indoors etc.)

lindsay's farewell tour should be great - her foot is fixed and I see her winning more titles and getting further in Grand Slams. She should be top 4 most of the year. Bronze for Olympics. Lindsay will dominate the indoors - I think she'll be almost unstoppable. But, she'll play like total crap on clay. I think she'll have a SF or F appearance at Oz.

BTW, Mary says she has no plans for retirement. Actually, if Lindsay has a really good year, especially a really great summer, it may not be her last year either. But it probably will be.

i know it. but i think mary will retire - due to injuries or whatever. it is just a felling. but for conchi, silivia and amanda it will be the last season, i am really sure.

I can't imagine Mary retiring next year. She's working so hard to get back to full fitness and make an impact on the tour. She said that she expects to back to her best by the middle of 2004. She wouldn't be putting in all that effort just for a couple of months.

I'm just preying that she'll be injury free then we'll see her challenging for a couple more years!

I also can't imagine Mary retiring...And I don't want Lindsay to say farewell to the tour...She's one of my faves... If she decides to stop, then I wish her some wonderful achievements in her next year, and some major tournaments wins.

But Mary....She will surely stay with us

Out of the players listed above I'm very certain Conchi, Amanda and Sylvia will call it quites after the next season. I don't know about Maggie and Mary who still seem very eager to fight and they aren't too old yet. But it depends on how they will fair respecitvely next year I guess.

Maggie will probably only play on to 2005 if she has some good results next year....

Add Mrs. Pistolesi, who probably wants to start a family afterwards. Add Iva. And as henenport indirectly observed, the Olympics will surely play a big role here, as many players want to represent their countries in Athens B4 leaving.

yeah Sascha, didn't I told you that I saw her in two matches playing in Sofia ($25k) qualies

in R1 she defeated Ana Jovanovic in 2 sets
but in the second she lost strangely to Seelen (?!) in 3 sets

I watched these 2 matches and I can assure you that Sesil is great
