Players who LOST despite a bagel

I believe the award has to go definetely to Kristina Brandi who in only 6 months this year has lost 3 matches after having won the first set 6/0

Auckland 2003 Qual 1 A Vanc - K Brandi-WC 0-6 7-6 7-6

Hobart 2003 Qual 1 M Czink(8) - K Brandi 0-6 6-4 6-1

Wimbledon 2003 Qual 2 A Parra(5) - K Brandi 0-6 7-6 6-0

And that wasn't a new feeling for her...

Los Angeles 2000 Qual 3 T Tanasugarn(6) - K Brandi(2) 0-6 6-3 6-4

Kristina Brandi comes out "smoking" in just about every first set she plays but her game is very ordinary and anybody who is even marginally good at tennis can figure her out easily. By the third set Brandi is usually totally worn out. That's why she's never done well on the circuit. Her father was a tennis coach at a college so you would think she would have learned how to pace herself.

Unfortunately, Serena ALSO joins this dubious group for her loss to Martina Hingis at the Canadian Open in 2001. First set 6-0. She aggravated a foot injury in the second set attempting a showoff overhead, while up a break and retired early in the third trailing 0-3.

She plays a little smarter now.

Pierce always wins the first easily, then plays the 2nd set close and then falls apart in the 3rd

It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning
