most idiotic:

Chris Evert saying that a one-handed backhand was a liability on grass. Considering she said that during the match that where Justine's one-handed backhand beat Capriati, and considering that Pete Sampras switched to a one-handed backhand to do well in Wimbledon (and won it 7 times) and that for example, Navratilova (9) times and Steffi (7) times had a one-handed backhand.

Joanne Russell - Roland Garros early 90s... maybe 91??? When referring to ASV's ball holder in the back of her skirt:

"Well, Bud, she has those so she doesn't get clay up in her panties."

Joanne Russell was/is/will alway be the biggest idiot to ever commentate a match. Ever.

Cliff always seems to be mixed up about the score or something. I can't stand when ESPN lets Chris Fowler commentate a match because he wants to sound like an expert when he has no clue. It was especialy evident in the Aussie open final.

These days on the grass a one handed backhand IS a liability on grass against the top players. The game is obviously not as slow as it used to be in Nav's and Steffi's time. She may have been speaking of Justine's backhand alone.

ahem, yes, that's why Justine beat Capriati who has a two-handed backhand with her liability from which most winners came.

and how can Justine's backhand alone be a liability? she's been in the finals and the semis twice, if that's a liability, then give me some more credit limit.

oh sorry, I forgot Federer has a two handed backhand, hmm, and that year's finalist Pat Rafter

I also guess they slowed the game down in 1999 when Steffi's one-handed beat Venus's two-handed.

Does the fact that Steffi beat Venus make a one handed backhand that much less of a liability on the grass in the modern era. No one said the person with the one hander would ALWAYS lose. Seems that Davenport picked on that backhand of Steffi's in the final. LD said she served to the backhand because she knew she would get a tame return.

No she didn't. Just in 2002. We all know what happened to her when she got there.
