I sort of miss the old days...

...of about 1999. Graf was still around (I still wonder what would have happened if she had beaten Davenport at Wimbledon); Hingis was still playing; Davenport was a force; the sisters were emerging.

I wish we had a few years with Graf playing her best; Seles playing her best; Hingis; Davenport; and the sisters playing well.

The tour has become...too predicatable? Semis of a major? These days it's Williams vs. Belgium (when everyone's healthy)

Yet on the other hand, it's more refreshing with the emergence of the Russians etc...

2004's Australian Open holds great potential IMO.

I think my favorite two years were 1999 and 2000. They were just so good.

2004 Australian has potential...but EVERY tournament has potential. I think the last GREAT women's Slam (where every round was exicting) was the 99 US Open. That tournament was VERY high quality. Davenport/Pierce Serena/Kim Serena/Conchita Serena/Seles Serena/Davenport Serena/Hingis Venus/Hingis Capriati/Tauziat Seles/Capriati

'99 plus Gaby and Kimiko would have been the ideal year!

they show the wimbledon movies on nbc europe but today it was 97 and so steffi was not there anyway

it was way more fun with queen steffi around. I should have more enjoyed it then though. as a crazy fan I was always occupied with my nerves

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

Graf would still have retired had she beaten Davenport. The point of retiring when she did was that she wanted to go out on top, as a champion.

I think it's pretty good right now. We have a whole cast list of fine, charismatic players. Let's enjoy them.

So many Anna K fans who wanna live in the past.... face it, the tour is better now. More players stepping it up,etc.

I've been seriously following tennis since 1996,
and let me tell you that not all the years were
great. Selective memory?

I didn't get to see all of the events in 1995; but that
was a entertaining year. From the vids that I did finally
watch 1994 was good too. 1996 was another great
year for players besides the same usual suspects.

1997 was interesting with the arrival of Hingis
and the power shift from Steffi, Asv and Monica.
Even then with Martina winning everything..it
was predictable.

1998 was a good year, so was 1999. 2000 was
ok, 2001 was decent, 2002 was boring.

2003 has been the best tennis year since 1998.

Yah I agree, 1999 was a really great year! All the top players were playing great, so few injuries, 4 different women to win slams, ULTRA exciting matches, etc! So many memories from that year that I'll never forget!
