I really like the new Sharapova rule because it is based on a merit - if you are so good, you play more, you know.
It makes more sense because without Sharapova rule, even 16 years old players are so good would be still limited to 10 tournaments. No chance at all. So, if 16 years old players are so good, they have a chance to pull up "Hingis's success at 16", you never know! They are out somewhere in the near future. If you are not good enough, too bad. They have to wait until 18 to play full-time.
The only negative thing is that young players may be forced to train harder to become good when they reach 15/16/17 to get a silver exempt and end up with injuries... that's the only thing I am worried about that...
But even the players at 16 years old could not get a silver exempt, still have a chance to play 2 additional tournaments when they are in the top 50. It's very logical and understandable. So top 50 16 years-old players can play 12 tournaments and top 50 17 ones can play 14 tournaments. That's pretty cool.
I am really pleased with the new rule. Thanks to Sharapova!
