Still feeling sorry for Jennifer who was just 10 points behind Lindsay on the ranking to become the Year End #1 in 2001..... Jennifer was the hottest and the most talkable player in 2001.... unfortunately couldn't end up with a perfect year!!!

I know the computer didn't come out until 1975, but I think most experts would agree that Chris Evert was the number 1 player for 1974, not BJK. Chris won Wimbledon and France, was runner up to Goolagong in Oz and the VS Champs, and a semifinalist to Evonne at the US.

BJK took the US over Evonne, lost in the semi's of the VS Champs to Evonne and lost early at Wimbledon. She didn't play the Aussie or French.

Actually, had Evonne taken that US title (she led in the 3rd set) she would have had a good argument for #1 that year. Bummer.

Kim won last year and so had a lot of points.Justine, however, didn't even reach the semis last year. So,she allready took more points by reaching them and went over Kim!

And yet, didn't Jen win Player of the Year for 2001? My, they were quite the subjective ones weren't they.

Probably .... Venus had the better season, but Jennifer's comeback could not be beaten as far as a media event goes.

Jen has only herself to blame for not being #1 in 2001, though.... she did not perform well after the US Open, and in fact, tailed off markedly after winning in paris.

It is odd to not see Venus in that list after her wonderful 2000 and 2001 seasons! Maybe 2004 will be Venus year!

GO VENUS!

She would have been if she had played more tournaments.
