Myriam Casanova: Why is she having a really bad year?

she wasn't injured, she played all GSs, many Tier 1s and total of 17 tournaments and yet her ranking has dropped so much... she is almost out of top 100 (@98)...

any info? btw, also, who is coaching her now?

actually, if you look at who she lost, it seems like she was having a bad luck with her draws...

on the other hand, she should have beaten some players like Reeves, for instance. still...

She's had some very bad draws, losing to either top tenners or players who would go on to win the whole thing in the lower level ones. However, her main problem is that she is HUGE! It's not her fault, she has a thyroid problem that prevents her from losing weight effectively, but she has gained weight even from last year. I have a feeling it's not going to get any better either. She needs to seek help for it if she is going to show off her vast potential

up until about wimbledon most of her losses were to top players.

It's amazing that Myriam has won as many matches as she has this year. For a player who is 70 pounds overweight, she had a pretty good year.

bad year??
She has defeated Eleni about 10 times this year,
I think she is making a great season, I´m scared about her, I prefer to see Eleni playing to Clijsters but not to Casanova

Eleni Daniilidou - Iveta Benesova - Melanie Klaffner - Gisela Dulko - Daniela Hantuchova - Jelena Dokic - Karolina Sprem -

bad draws, and not taking close matches have been the main problems besides the already present weight issues. she has had chances to win against mauresmo, seles, zvonareva, dokic, stevenson, patty, but always loses the tight sets (obviously fitness is an issue there).

she has beaten some quality players very handily after wimbledon and i think that if she can just find a way past the weight issue then she is really going to start rising very quickly. i think next year will be a much better year in any event, even though she is going to have to work hard to get into a lot of tournaments.

yeah, the draws sucked and she was on a hardcore diet for most of the year until her "legs felt like jelly", as she put it herself. she has stopped that diet now, because it didn't help at all. she has also had many smaller injuries, which of course is also related to her weight. it seems like a difficult situation to get out of.

She got a lot of bad draws at the start of the year so she kept losing, and then later i think the losing made her lose confidence, even though she lost to good players.
She just lost to Craybas indoors
I dont think the weight is as much of an issue as people make it out to be. She still had a good year last year, reaching top 50 and beating players such as Henin, and she was still very heavy then.
Hopefully she will have a much better year next year. Shes too talented to be ranked this low.

Two different situations. Myriam has an underactive thyroid, thus the weight problem. Marie is not esp. ova-weight, though she could use to get more toned. She's had various orthopedic injuries all year. I guess when one adds in Marti's feet and the Peppermint Puzzle, SUI tennis is jinxed. Wait, I'm not from Boston or Chicago, I don't believe in that stuff!
