Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

What is the # on the far right?

Prayed through the nights
felt so alone
suffered from alienation
carried the weight on my own
Had to be strong
so I believed
and now I know I've succeeded
in finding the place I conceived

I hope that Elena D and Jen seal their places for this event as neither is playing till the Champs now! Maybe Jen in Advanta....

I also hope Venus comes back too! She would bring so much to the competition!

Why is #1 in a group with #3 and #5?? Shouldn't it be #1 and #4?

I think that's how they do it in Men's Championship, if I'm not mistaken. WTA is simply copying the format, I believe

If Justine´s play the past few weeks is any indication, she is in the dead group and her chances for advancing don´t look all too bright.

Always bet on black!
Can you handle the truth?
The truth:
Serena Williams: Greatest African-American tennisplayer in history

The mens format is not like that. What they do is put #1 and #2 in separate groups, then #3 and #4 in either group at random, same with #5 and #6, and #7 and #8 take the remaining spots.
So each group will consist of either 1 or 2, either 3 or 4, either 5 or 6 and either 7 or 8. It is drawn at random with these rules.

A divisor ranking is of course meaningless because the number of points that can be gained per tournament is not constant. It favours good players who play only the biggest tournaments and less smaller tournaments.
